Ran out of space after only 6 months
-
I have just been made aware that I have used up all the 3 GB of space given with my basic wordpress blog. And yet I know of a number of friends who have had their blogs (also wordpress.com) for a number of years and have still not used all their memory space. What have I been doing wrong? What is taking all my space? Is there any way to fix this or get more space? Or is going “Premium” my only option? I do not feel ready to go self hosted yet and wanted to stay with wordpress.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello, I do see you have a lot of media files and maybe that’s why you’ve reached the 3 GB limit. You can check your media files to see if they all add up to 3 GB and if they do, I suggest you compress those.
Here are some free image optimization tools for image compression:

Wow thank you for the speedy reply. If I get an image optimization tool (thank you for the link), will I be able to use it to compress the images I already have uploaded in my blog?

To add – I do not have wordpress.org and so am unable to get plugins. Can I still compress my images somehow?

Not exactly. You’ll need to compress/optimize those images one by one and upload them again. It’s kind of tedious so I’ll propose another way.
If you create a post/page and click Add Media, there’s an option to Insert from URL on the left sidebar. So if you click that, you just need to insert the URL of the image you’re using. If you have a Google account then you can use the free 15GB storage that’s given to you. You can upload your images in Google Drive and then get the link of the image and paste it in the URL field in the Insert from URL. That way it won’t take up space in your blog’s/site’s media files because it’s not stored there.

Yes you can. All of the free image optimization tools in the link I gave you are web based so you don’t need to get them as plugins and definitely you don’t need WordPress.org. You just need to pick one that supports the file type of the image you are optimizing/compressing.
PNG – Tiny PNG
JPG and PNG – Compressor.io
JPEG – JPEG Optimizer
