Random category keeps creating itself?

  Lately, a random category has been sort of creating itself. It is always the same thing titled ‘5432008’. None of the authors and contributors are making it…Sometimes it will even check itself for a post, AFTER I have published that post?!?! Any ideas?

  Also, I have tried deleting it but it just comes back…

  It sounds as if the default category (uncategorized) was deleted, but a new default category was not set at settings > writing. If a new category is not set as a default, wordpress will create one and it will be titled as a number.

  Each post has to have at least one category assigned to it.

  The same was happening to me, it was so annoying, but this solved it!
