Random Outlook email addresses following my blog

    Hi,

    Over the last 4-5 months I get a new email every day or every second day that some random Outlook email address – usually a long random string of letters followed by @outlook.com – has started following my blog and will receive an email every time I post new content. When I go to My Site –> People –> Email Followers I don’t see those so I could remove them. Who are these people and how can I stop them from following my blog?

    I have stopped posting content until I can figure this out.

    Hi there,

    This is spam, and we’re working on blocking those followers. You can just ignore them.

    There’s no need to stop posting content on your site. These spam followers don’t pose any risk to your site and account, and as long as you don’t email them back, thereby giving them your email address, they’re nothing more than an annoyance.

    The fact that they get an email with my post every time I post something is a bit unsettling, hence I have stopped posting. Do you know by when WordPress will have this spam issue resolved?

    @aprajitajain we are blocking them after they spam-follow you, so no worries there. We are working on being able to prevent the spamming in the first place, but that’s a work in progress.
