Random photographs intruding on blog pages
-
With over 500 pages in my blog, I know how I want the pages to appear. Suddenly, random photographs have landed in, interfering with my own art work to illustrate the day’s topic. Do I have to bribe WordPress to remove them? This is not advertising I’m complaining about: this is some random photo generator’s idea of what would make my austere essays look better.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
How odd. Could you provide a link to page or post (or two) which include such images, identifying the intruding images? Are you saying that random images, which you did not upload to the media library, or directly to a post or page, are somehow magically appearing in your articles?
-
Yes. I figured it was a way to blackmail me into subscribing.
On the page you’ll find at the link below, the image of the Porsche is mine. The foliage, city scape, or beach, or whatever, is NOT MINE.
Thanks.
Rod Croskery, M.Ed.

@ rodcros,
You’re welcome, Rod.
The foliage, city scape, or beach, or whatever, is NOT MINE.
I guess you’re referring to an ad or ads. I don’t see anything like that. Have used Adblock Plus for years to prevent such advertisements from displaying or popping up.
Regards,

Do you mean there is no narrow, wide photo emphasizing texture across the top of the page, above my title? I’ve seen that on every homepage, yesterday and today.

Here’s another example, this one with a band of beach across the top, just above the title, “Life at Blair’s School.”
I do not want that graphic there, but have no idea how to remove it as I didn’t create it, and it is not an advertisement.

Rod,
Sorry, I misunderstood previously. Those are default header images, set to display randomly. There are two ways to get rid of those at Customize (See the Customizer support page) > header images:
1. Click on one of the images. That will select the image and it will display at Customize as your current header. Then click the button “Hide image,” and then the button “Save & Publish.” This will result in no header images being displayed on the homepage, posts, and pages.
2. Choose “Add an Image,” and then select an image from external files or fromt the site’s media library, crop or choose to skip cropping, and Save & Publish.

You’re welcome, Rod. If you have any trouble following the instructions I provided, or those in the Customizer support page, you may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar to call for staff attention. I’m sure staff would be happy to set it to display no headers for you.

I’m lost. This is buggy software, and beyond my expertise. I write content, and don’t want to mess with this nonsense.
-
No worries. Let’s try step by step instructions:
- 1. Go to your Customize page. Click this link to go there: https://rodcroskery.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?return=%2Fwp-admin%2F.
- 2. Click on the first image in the left sidebar under the group labeled “Suggested.”
- 3. Click the button labeled “Hide image.”
- 4. Click the button at the top of the sidebar labeled “Save & Publish.”
That should remove the images from the tops of the homepage, posts, and static pages. You’ll still see “thumbnails” of the header images in the sidebar at Customize > Header Image, but they will not be displayed on the site.
If that doesn’t work then add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.
-
None of these directions seem to lead where you say.
What is a sidebar? What is a modlock tag?
-
Good day, Rod
What is a sidebar?
That’s an area on a blog or website page, usually found to the left or right of the main content of the page. This page that we are conversing on has an empty margin on the left of the the posts, and a sidebar on the right which contains various items under “About this Topic,” and a “Tags” list with a box for adding more tags. Your site, Walnut Diary, has on its homepage (or front page) a sidebar which includes various widgets: the pages, categories, links (blogroll) widgets.
What is a modlock tag?
I’ll add the “modlook” tag to the sidebar of the topic.
-
I think “modlook” is short for “moderator look.” I guess it alerts a moderator that staff assistance is requested on the topic. A staff member will eventually respond to the topic when that tag has been added.

I made a mistake in the step by step. Here’s the revised instructions.
Remove header images from Simpla theme homepage, posts, and pages (step by step instructions):
- When logged into your site, go to your Customize page. You may click this link to go directly there: https://rodcroskery.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?return=%2Fwp-admin%2Findex.php
- Click on “Header Image”
- Click on the first image in the left sidebar under the group labeled “Suggested.”
- Click the button labeled “Hide image.”
- Click the button at the top of the sidebar labeled “Save & Publish.”

Hi. The images he’s referring to aren’t ads. They are the default header images on the Simpla theme, set to display randomly. I corrected my original misunderstanding in this post once I figured out what he was referring to. They appear on the top of the homepage, pages, and posts.
I’ve provided simple step-by-step instructions for removing (actually hiding) the header images on that theme, but I made an error in the first version. The revised version should work.
