Random posts feature
-
Hi. My blog gets a random posts feature if I am logged in. Is there any way to make this available to people who are NOT logged in? Going to random posts is a good way to get a sense of a blog. I don’t need it — my readers do.

There is an easter egg in WordPress.com that you can employ to your advantage. Matt talks about in this post:
To use the Random Post feature…All you have to do is add a Text Widget in the sidebar with the following code:
<a href="http://NAMEOFYOURBLOGHERE.wordpress.com/?random" title="Click here for random post">Click here for random post</a> -
That will only take people to a random post on YOUR blog, though. It will not throw them off your blog to a different one.

Here is the URL if you would like to link it
to a image http://yourblogname.wordpress.com/?random -
raincoaster, right it is not a Random Blog link, but a Random Post within the current blog.
teck, yes that is the base link. You can put the
?randomafter any WordPress blog address and get a random post from that blog. -
One of my commenters said it was her favorite thing about my blog, actually. I had it in a text widget in the sidebar. I should put it back, come to think of it. It’s very good at keeping people on your blog, presuming you’ve got a good few posts already.

And random:

I keep a link (and image) in my sidebar for random posts as well. Folks seem to like it.

Same here I have the random post link on my side bar
linked to a image and my readers seem to like. -
Hi, folks.
I am a complete n00b. I was reading through some of the forum posts, and really thought the random idea was great! So, I figured out how to put the widget on my site. It doesn’t work when I click on it. Be gentle – I didn’t even know what a widget was, until last week!
I put the widget in the way that beemeister suggested.
Thank you.

Because you didn’t put in the entire link. Here’s what I see in your widget:
<a>Click here for random post</a>Which, as you say, doesn’t work. Here’s what you have to put in, as explained above:
<a href="http://paintanywhere.wordpress.com/?random">Click here for random post</a>HTH

@ vivianpaige; I just had a look at your blog, it’s really cool. Could you tell me how you made the random post thing link to an image, please?
-
The same format as linking to any other image, as explained in this FAQ http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/how-to-write-links/
<a href="http://yourblog.wordpress.com/?random"><img src="urlofimage" alt="" title="" /></a>HTH
