Random spam links in my posts

How do I get rid of random spam links that have just started to appear in my blog posts.

Is this the work of a hacker or prankster or someone who does not like the content of my posts?

In reading other forums I noticed that this same problem had been reported during the past two years. Unfortunately the forums did not provided any solution information.

    Help appreciated.

    1. Please provide us with links to posts or pages you see these “spam links” appearing in.

    2. Have you been copying and pasting content from elsewhere into posts and/or pages?

    3. Please deactivate all browser add-ons and extensions and clear your browser cache and cookies, http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050 then log out and reboot your computer and log in with the add-ons deactivated and see if you still see these “spam links”.

    4. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

    5. Exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

    6. Are you using an https:// secure login? http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Thanks timethief. Suggestion 3 did the trick. Problem resolved.

I have also switched to a secure login as you suggested in #6.

    Re your other advice —

#1 — I discovered that these spam links only showed up on my own desktop PC and not on my two laptops and partner’s desktop, all of which are on a home LAN. So I presume the spam links to my posts would not show up on any PCs other than my own. If I’m mistaken please advise.

#2 – I do copy and paste a lot of my textual content to my blog posts but I first edit it in MS Word and then copy to a New Post in WordPress.com. I copy .jpg files and embed YouTube and Vimeo videos directly to my posts.

#4 — I connect to the Internet via a high-speed LAN modem provided by my ISP

#5 — I use two browsers, Chrome and Firefox both of which are the latest versions

Thanks again. Big relief to know that I’m not spreading a virus.

I believe deactiavteing or getting rid of the prolem browser add-on or extention ought to end this. The only way to determine excatly which on it is you beed to reactivate each add-on or exitension one at a time and test to see what happens.

I have also switched to a secure login as you suggested in #6.

Latops and mobiles have security issues so make sure your patrner is aware of that and always use the https:// login.

Best wishes for trouble-free blogging. :)

P.S. Will you please be kind enough to enter the top of this thread and mark is “resolved”?
