random text widget
-
I have a list of jokes, quotes, anecdotes, etc and I’d like them to randomly appear in the sidebar each time someone visits my site. How can I do this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can easily do this by choosing a text gadget from the widgets and insert it into blog anywhere you want

Hello laurarittenhouse,
Ignore that please because to display random quotes requires JavaScript. You cannot easily create any JavaScript widget so be clear on that. More to the point is that JavaScript is stripped out by the software here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ -
Also note that there is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/See here for a full comparison WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

Timethief, yeah, from what I’ve read with one of the free wordpress blogs you can’t add in any plugins. I was hoping wordpress had some solution. they say they like suggestions for new plugins – this is one I think would be good.
Humsports, the problem with the text widget is that it only allows fixed text and I want random items to show up, selected from a table or list.
