Ranking when upgrading to a domain
-
I have excellent ranking for SEO with my .com site. If I change it to my own domain, will that affect the ranking?
Please advise as i just upgraded. I’ll use the option to have the site moved to my own domain if it won’t jeopardize my ranking.

I just wanted to add for clarification. My site is now hosted by WordPress at http://daniefast.wordpress.com and it’s in position #3 on Google.
I am concerned that when I upgrade and switch over to my own domain that the backlinks and other “back end” issues will change and my ranking will be compromised.
I have never been able to find an answer for this and thus have avoided going to my own domain for the site.
Thank you . . .

Modifying your domain can definitely have an effect on search engine rankings, particularly in the short term. This consideration must be balanced against the long-term benefits of owning your own domain.
