Rankings Analytics and Buttons For Website – probable spam
-
Hi.
For the past while, I’ve noticed a couple of websites are showing up as referrers to my website that are potentially spam sites. They are called Rankings Analytics (Semalt.com) and Buttons for Website (Sharebutton.net). They seem to be ‘referring’ people to my site, but I have a feeling that they are not valid and therefore messing up my visitor stats. Is there a way to get rid of these so-called ‘referrers’ through some kind of spam filter? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

they seem to only generate one or two page views so should not be a large distortion – that is based on them visiting a test site of mine that has ZERO legit visits (was a test site I did to figure out all the fine tune points on domain mapping and keeping the email working – things are easier now)
I will also flag this for the staff to give you their insights

Thanks for the info. I’d just like to avoid more of these spammers from hitting my site in the future. Thanks for passing on my query to the staff.

You are welcome
On the good side they are annoying but not a threat to your site – in some cases they are trolling for click backs and others harbor malware – so it pays to be careful

While you can’t really block them from referring people to your site, like @auxclass pointed out, they won’t affect your stats much.
And you can hide them from your referrers list if you’d like. More info here:

Thanks, @supernovia and @auxclass for your input. Yes, in the grand scheme of things they won’t affect my stats. But, it’s a bit of a downer when a spam site is making referrals rather than legit sites. So, I marked these two as spam. I appreciate the help.
