Rankmath plugin – site disappeared

I tried to install the free Rankmath plugin to my WordPress site, which now seems inoperable. My site was formerly located at https://zerovu.wordpress.com/ however the plugin advises the URL would change to https://zerovu.wpcomstaging.com/. Fine so far.
Upon logging in to WordPress I am now presented a blank dashboard, my old URL is dead and my new URL is dead. When I navigate to plugins to try and uninstall, I only see a menu of plugin options; Rankmath is displayed as though it is not installed. There is no option to uninstall. When I click to (re)-install Rankmath, I get the message, “An error occurred while installing the plugin.”
Rankmath support says WordPress may need to uninstall the plugin manually, or I can try to remove the folder from the file system…which I am loathe to do since I am already in over my head.
This may seem elementary but I do not know how to back out of the Rankmath plugin and restore my site.
