Ratings and Feedback

Sorry if this idea has already been discussed, but it occurred to me that it might be a good idea to have a system where users can rate other peoples blogs. Maybe this could on a star basis (5 being the best) and also users give feedback to people on their blogs. I think it would be a good way for people to improve their blogs. Good idea or not?

Well most folks use the comments to send in feedback. I know most of teh comments left on my site have nothing to do with the post in question. Just folks asking for help with WP.com or WPMU.
Don’t know about ratings though myself.
Send in a Feedback and suggest the issue. Wouldn’t hurt.

Star ratings for blogs sounds like something they would have on Xanga. It might be something they have on Xanga, for all I know. It could be interesting, though, if we got together a syndicate to vote down some blogs and vote up others…

I would like to see it be opt-in though. I just don’t feel comfortable with the idea of receiving ratings.

I’m weighing in against introducing a rating system. If one should be introduced and I hope it isn’t, then I agree with drmike’s position – there should be an option to either opt in or to opt out.

I wouldn’t go for the rating system as well. The number of visitors that you get to see in the Blog Stats is pretty good indicator over a long period of time. Also, some blogs may be personal and there would be a PoV that they have expressed that most won’t like.
But, it’s their blog and they get to say what they like. That’s my view.regards,

A rating system? Too much room for subjectiveness… and blogs (for the most part are personal and not created for others approval). Someone doesn’t like something on another’s blog? – could be a thumbs down. Is the blogger popular, Special or powerful? Bet they won’t be voted down.
If one wants to give feedback vis a vis a blog, one should first ask the blogger if they would like feedback. Not everybody wants it. An alternative for those who would love some kind of rating activity is to hold a one off competition – with rules and objective criteria – a panel of blogging peers – into which people can voluntarily enter their blogs/s. Of course you need to offer some kind of decent reward to make it worthwhile.
