re-aligning search bar in regulus theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
Im currently trying to re-align the search bar within the reglus theme but having no joy.
Basically ive aligned all my links (catagories, blogroll etc) to the left, but id like
the search bar to be positioned over to the top right directly below my header image and title. Any ideas how to do this?
I also wouldnt mind experimenting with moving the search bar directly to the bottom of the page also, so any help with that would be appreciated also :)

If you’re editing theme files themselves, you need to be at WordPress.org. This is the support forum for blogs hosted at WordPress.com and we can’t edit our theme files here.

If you do have a WordPress.com blog, linking up your name to your blog would be a useful courtesy, as we could then look directly at your blog and make suggestions.

your sidebar can be placed either left or right. you move the position of the search widget you need to edit your widgets. go to dashboard, select presentation, under it select widgets. drag the search widget to the position you want in the sidebar (left click the search widget then pull it without letting go of the left click).

Thanks. Now, if only I could answer your question. Unfortunately, I’m no CSS expert.

Looking at it in Firefox, I can see that the border around the Search box is causing a bit of a misalignment, as it overlaps into the main blog column. You’ll want to narrow that down quite a bit, I think.

sulz, do you mean he needs to choose a theme with three columns instead of two? That would make sense.

he could if he wants the search box specifically on the right. i’m not sure why is it misaligned though.

ah thanks chaps, that all seems to make sense. I’ll report back after lunch if i still cant get the search bar re-aligned, otherwise thanks :)

In the regulus theme the default is two sidebars, which as sulz points out can be moved to either the right or left. When the sidebar moves so does the searchbox.

ah ok so it seems that the searchbox is stuck where it is depending on where the sidebar is aligned.
In that case could someone tell me how to simply reposition the searchbox to the bottom of the page? – although obviously still aligned to the left with the rest of the sidebar.

i answered that question a few posts above.

Actually I think this blogger is asking how he can change the position of the searchbox using css customization. I think he’ll have to wait until one of our bloggers with css experience come online.

Yes that’s what im asking timethief, unfortunately sulz the searchbox is unavailable in the widgets section of the regulus theme. Ive looked through a few of the themes and it does show up in some of them, but not in the regulus theme.
Unless ive done something in the additional coding accidently to remove the option from the widgets section, im assuming that the theme just doesnt allow you to select the search function in the widgets section.

I think but do not really know that the searchbox is hardcoded into the theme. I’m not going out on any limb here though I know diddly squat about css. You will have to wait until one of the bloggers who does have experience with it responds to your post.
