RE: Like Button

    Quick question: I have spent an hour researching why the “Like button” doesn’t work. Just found that it’s a required feature of WordPress to create an account.

    There are some people who genuinely like what they’ve read. I’ve received several messages they can’t like and wish not to create a WordPress account.

    Any updates or thoughts about this?

    Hi there, clicking the “Like” button makes one’s Gravatar display below the post or page, so an account is needed. https://en.support.wordpress.com/likes/ (Think of it like twitter’s like button, you need to be logged in to your twitter account in order to like someone’s tweet.)

    If you want to add another or different system for showing appreciation of a post, it looks like you have the needed plan to add a plugin. I suggest chatting with support directly at https://wordpress.com/help/contact which is part of your upgrade plan.
