Re-ordering portfolio projects
-
Hi all
How can I change the order the Blask theme is showing the portfolio projects? Changing the dates didn’t work.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Update:
Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Is it a general WordPress issue with the Free planners? I believe that whenever I upload a new project, I would like it to appear on top of the other projects, and not at the bottom of the list. But this behaviour is the exact opposite in most of the Free themes. (A normal behaviour is observed in Espied theme, but it has some other issues. So I migrated from that one to Blask.) -
Hi,
It was my understanding that portfolio projects are displayed in reverse chronological order, the latest shown at the top left, and the oldest at the bottom right in the grid. However, in my recent tests that is not the order I find them in. On a test site I have eleven published projects, numbered 0 – 10. On both the Blask and Illustratr themes, the projects appear in reverse chronological order in the top row, and then in chronological order in each of the following rows, within each row. So the order of appearance is like this:
top row — 10, 9, 8
second row — 5, 6, 7
third row — 2, 3, 4
fourth row — 0, 1I don’t know how to explain this result.
-
I would expect the order to be reverse chronological throughout, and therefore the order of appearance be the following:
top row — 10, 9, 8
second row — 7, 6, 5
third row — 4, 3, 2
fourth row — 1, 0 -
Hi imansayah,
How can I change the order the Blask theme is showing the portfolio projects? Changing the dates didn’t work.
I see that you’re using the Portfolios Shortcode on the front page of your site rather than using Blask’s Portfolio Page Template.
Right now, I see the basic shortcode in your site:
[portfolio]The default option for this shortcode is to show the oldest first, and then newest last.
To flip this, replace the above shortcode with the following:
[portfolio order=desc]We have more information on the customizations available in this feature here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/portfolio-shortcode/#attributesIf you decide to use Blask’s Portfolio Page Template for your front page, here’s how it displays the portfolio items, with the newest (#9) at the top, and the oldest (#1) at the bottom:

Hi dcoleonline,
Ah thanks man… I completely forgot to check the shortcodes. Thank you so much. -
The order on my test site remains as I’ve described above, https://sbstage1.wordpress.com/. Any ideas as to why?

Thanks for the link. It’s a good question, and I looked further into this based on your findings.
Blask uses a Javascript library called Masonry which automatically fits the portfolio images together to maintain the grid. On my test, I added portfolios without images, so they were all the same size on the front page. This made them appear in reverse chronological order because their size/shape meant that the grid didn’t have to reposition them to fit nicely.
However with images of mixed sizes/shapes, the grid’s logic takes over to decide where to put each image. So in this case, it isn’t possible to force the order by using the date if the featured images for portfolios vary in their size/shape.

Thanks for the clear explanation, which I understand. : )
I’d also had the same result on Illustratr as I noted above, and have now switched over that theme if you’d like to have another look: https://sbstage1.wordpress.com/. The order can more easily be seen in Illustratr, because the titles appear prominently and I’ve titled the projects by chronological order.

I find that I do not have the option of marking the topic resolved, but it was marked resolved by the OP before I posted again, which evidently reopened it. I now consider the topic resolved.

I’d also had the same result on Illustratr
Illustratr also uses Masonry, so the same auto-arranging will happen there. Most WordPress.com themes that have an interlocking grid will use something similar.
I now consider the topic resolved.
No worries, I’ll go ahead and mark it as resolved.
