Re-posting and keeping old URL

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to update my top post and repost as a new post with a new date stamp on the URL. I want the old URL to work still because it is linked on various sites on the internet (I’d hate for someone to get a error message when trying to access it though a link), but want to merge the posts with the new date stamp so that there is a not a double post on my site (making things confusing). Can this be done?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Since you want both links to work (with the new date stamp and the old one), you’ll have to have two separate posts. There isn’t a way to automatically redirect a single URL to a different one, so both links will only work if there’s a post published at each URL.

However, if you just want the post to be stuck to the top of your list of posts, you could make it a sticky post. That would keep it at the top of the list without having to change the date stamp and URL.

Thank you for your response. I have another question…. why is it that whenever I provide a link to another one of my post’s on a new post, I get an email from WordPress asking me to moderate a comment… with verbatim what I already wrote in my own post, but the title of the comment is the title of the post that I added a link to. I never know what to do with these “comments”. If I delete them, does that interfere with the link that I left?? Thanks

  • Hi there – I think you’re referring to pingbacks:

If those self-pings annoy you, you can turn them off:
