Re-start old site
-
I have deleted my site as I wish to start again and import data from another WordPress site. But when I try to use my old URL it tells me it is already taken. How can I start with a clean site using my old URL?

Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address

Many thanks for the info. That is a shame. I suppose the same goes for the email address I used on the site? All I am trying to do is start a blank website so I can import data from another WordPress site. As I am new to WordPress I wanted to then learn on the test site.

You are welcome simdavsite. You may have seen adequate warning messages while deleting the site. The ones similar to those shown on the link i shared earlier.
You may need to start a new blog with an alternate test URL and then import the data.

Again, thanks for the info. I am now in the process, as you have suggested, of starting a new blog/website. New address “simdavwebsite”. I will then try and delete all the site content just leaving a blank website with access to the dashboard and then import the old website and modify/update and learn as required.

Sorry to keep bothering you nagpai, but you have been a great help.
So another question, if I may?
Is it possible when a new website is requested to bypass the initial questions asking what the site is for etc., and just jump to a new clean empty website with access to the dashboard? I could then go straight to Tools – Import and load up the existing site I would like to train on. -
Thanks for your kind words, and i am glad to help with whatever i know.
I do not know of any method that directly gives you a clean site without providing the initial information. Although you are allowed to create any number of sites under the same id.. Hence for testing you may make a different site too mentioning it is for test and with arbitrary name, instead of adding content and then deleting it.
