RE: Where to report suspected breached account of another blogger??
-
I received an invite to be admin for another blogger’s site this morning. Email shows sent from ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’ – however, the blogger is not known to me and I fear their account might be breached? Would like to get the information to the Security team, but I’m still on the ‘free’ account – so not certain where to send the info to and do not wish to post publicly.

Hi there!
Thanks for reaching out. There isn’t a security breach here – any WordPress.com site owner can invite any other WordPress.com user to their site if they have either their WordPress.com username or email address.
You can see how this is done here:
https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/#adding-users-to-your-site
If you don’t know this individual, you can safely ignore that invitation. We have instances when site owners send out invites thinking that’s a way to get subscribers/followers to their website, which is likely what happened here. I would recommend that you ignore this one for now.
I hope that clarifies things!

Thanks! I understand how ‘it’s done’ but, alas, I also, for biz, do WordPress.org websites in place for clients, and am subscribed to more ‘early warning’ security notifications on many fronts from server to WordPress, plugins/themes, and well – haven’t, in all my years blogging here, ever been invited by someone I didn’t know – for admin duties – so, for me?
“Easier to close the gate than to chase down the livestock later” – – LOL
Thanks for the reply – I didn’t realize this was a ‘thing’ being utilized by those wishing to gain followers – but, in my grey matter now, to better assess! :)Ahh – the trending shortcuts that occur over and over that I initially view as “non-productive, won’t gain anything here, thus, it’s some kind of phish/spam/breach” – first alert!
My apologies for not being aware of this trend and ‘freaking out’ and trying to send early ‘alert’ warning! :D

No apologies needed! It’s better to be skeptical than not when it comes to your website. :)
