Reachability after changing the web address
-
Hello dear WordPress,
I have a question: Nearly two weeks ago I’ve changed my web site address. It was trelitoufeggariou.wordpress but not it’s thalassaplateia.com. Now my old posts can be found by Google but they cannot be opened because when you click on them (on Google search results page) you go to the wordpress page which says that trelitoufeggariou.wordpress.com DOESN’T EXIST ANY MORE. All my old posts cannot be opened. I don’t want to return to my old web page name. What should I do now? Thank you very much. Happy new year :) Nihan. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
The old post links should automatically forward to the new URL. Can you share an example where this is happening?
-
For example, when I search one of my October 2016 posts (word by word) in google,
I find this web page on google search in the name of OCTOBER 2016. Not with the name of my post as usual.
-
Search
“μεδουσα wordpress”
in Google.
You’ll find my photos and my site’s name “benim şarkılarım”.
But when you click on them, wordpress leads you to my old site and my old site says that THE AUTHORS HAS DELETED THIS SITE. -
@thalassaplateia, since it was just deleted two weeks ago (when you changed names) here’s what I recommend:
With your approval we can restore the address. (Please confirm)
Then you can add a redirect upgrade to send folks automatically from the old site to the new one. It’s $13 per year (right now) and it will automatically tell search engines to update their links. Links on social media cannot be automatically updated, though, so you’d want to correct those if you can or keep the redirect upgrade going.
OR you could put a message on the old site recommending that folks visit the new one. You just wouldn’t enjoy your existing SEO that way, so the redirect upgrade is your best bet for now, at least.

Dear supernovia, $13 is a very important amount for me because I’m living in a low income country. I cannot accept but thank you for your recommendation.
-
Sure thing, do you want us to restore the old site so you can update it with a link to the new site?
-
I’ve changed the name of the site and I think I don’t want to restore the old one. Thank you :)
The thing that I can’t understand is some of my old posts have the new name (and the new address) but some of them have an old one. What do you think? Why this is happening? I think it’s something about Google.
-
Yes, Google still has the old links saved for some results. Over time the results with non-working links will go away.
