I canceled the domain I had purchased via WordPress last week because I wanted to use it elsewhere. The new platform said I’d have to transfer it from WordPress, so I thought I’d speed up the process by cancelling the ownership and repurchasing it on the new platform, bypassing the transfer.

However, for some reason it still says the name is still taken?

I wanted to move my content to another platform and as my ownership of the domain was ending in a few weeks, I decided to simply cancel the ownership in hopes of reacquiring it on my new platform. However, it seems WordPress still has possession of the domain, despite the fact I no longer own it?

I simply want to know if WordPress will let go of the domain name? How I can reacquire it? Or at least some sort of advice on how I can get access to it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Transferring the domain is the best solution if you want to keep using it with a different registrar. Once you cancel it, it goes through a number of stages (just as expired domains do) before finally being released. Sometimes, it’s even been auctioned. Here you can read more details:

This guide explains what happens when a domain expires. Most of the same information also applies when a domain is actively canceled. When Does a Domain Expire? When you register your domain (e.g. yourgroovydomain.com) with WordPress.com, you purchase the right to use that domain for as long as you keep the registration active. Domain registration terms are annual so your domain will

Your domain jamiex66.com is right now in redemption, you can check it here: https://www.whois.com/whois/jamiex66.com.

We may still be able to recover it, however, an $80 fee is required for that. I’ll send you a separate email with a link where you’ll be able to pay the fee. Once you’ve done that, reply here and we’ll start the recovery process. When the domain is back on your account, you’ll be able to transfer it following this guide:

This guide explains how to transfer a domain registered with WordPress.com out to another provider (known as a registrar), such as GoDaddy or 1&1. Please note that your domain must be at least 60 days old before you can transfer it away. If it’s a new domain, you can change the name servers instead. Step One: Prepare the Domain Transfer Follow these steps to prepare your domain for t

If you’d rather wait for the domain to be released, no action is required. Bear in mind, though, that we have no control over the domain, or when it will be released.
