zooeyz — To make fonts bigger on any web page, hold down the control key on keyboard and hit the + key. To make it smaller, hold down control key and hit – key. I use this all the time.

BTW, I’m not saying I hate it…yet. And I don’t hate change. Just adding my voice to the concerns and I do understand that things take time. So, I’ll do a wait and see. I should do the laundry anyway.

So they changed the dashboard, whatever I can live with it. But WHY DID THEY TAKE OUT MY SPELL CHECKER!!!!
Wordpress – if you are going to make changes to your product makes sure it doesn’t affect our posting abilities! -
If the windows to add an image or add a link come up blank for you, then right click on the blank window and click on refresh, reload or reload frame (whatever it comes up as in your browser and the window will refresh and be fine.

I like the new layout a lot, aside from the removal of the Categories interface from the sidebar of the Write page, though it sounds like I’d be p.o.’d if I were in the habit of using the visual editor. I do think a warning for WordPress.com users would’ve been helpful, but if you read “Lorelle on WordPress” or Timethief’s “One Cool Site” you’d have known to expect it this week. Online mock-ups of the new design have also been available for close to a month, I think, and linked to from the aforementioned blogs. So I know it’s water over the dam now, but I do recommend subscribing to a few WordPress-focused blogs – of which there are many – to keep abreast of things like this.

Ditto on the suggestion that we be WARNED first! GAH!
Then again maybe they did warn us and we weren’t paying attention.
I changed my theme at the same time so now I’m REALLY REALLY CONFUSED. I supposedly have three sidebars now, but my “design” feature only allows me to futz with one of them. Consequently I’ve got duplicate widgets on different sidebars and apparently no way to delete the extras. I like the theme but . . . see, now I can’t figure out if the problem is with the theme or my dashboard. AUGH!

It’s NOT the new look I object to!
It’s the FACT that it DON’T WORK at all properly.
Everything looks OK in EDIT, but when you hit POST, it DESTROYS the post.
I don’t spend hours a day creating a new puzzle for each day to make it messed up after posting. Took long enough when I first joined Word Press to find a presentation screen that worked right, only like 3 or 4 of all they offered would work properly.
Now they’ve messed those up too!

There were plenty of bugs yesterday and I was one of the first to run here to complain. Over the course of several hours being in the forum, they managed to squash several bugs.
There are still some (involving gallery incorrectly ordering files that have numbers for names to force a sequence).
http://mikecane2008.wordpress.com/2008/04/04/photo-album-space1999/I expect they’ll get everything sorted out.
But one thing I did was try posting from an iPhone — and it is an improvement over the old way. The new TinyMCE recognizes blank lines in Safari now instead of smooshing everything into one clump of text.

Blogging a long time on several blogs, different hosts, the one on WP: nearly two years, so this isn’t the first Dashboard re-do I’ve seen. I REALLY liked the original Dashboard, so did the community, so when WP changed it –community was not happy.
–A new Dashboard, that affects Every person –without a ‘heads up’ –date, time –warning/inkling on the Dashboard it was coming? Arrogance: doesn’t go over well, usually. Since they did it again, in the same way, I’m reminded of something my wise grandmother said, occaisonally, about various people:
“he thinks his feet don’t smell”
(Lord I miss her), meaning: so&so thought he could do whatever –no consequences, because HE wasn’t flawed/could do no wrong –the rest of the world was supposed to accept whatever,
cuz it was done by Flawless hisself….Except: when one’s feet DO smell –how to make the ‘smellee’ believe it?
You can’t. They canned Dr. Mike, most didn’t care for that one bit. Tough. The day that “I CAN Chezeburger” thing went up –on the HOME page: a Big signal –they Don’t Care.
WP & Co: DON’T CARE what you/I/anybody thinks. If they Cared/had Actual respect: they would have thought about how THEY like to be treated. But: We aren’t press, we can’t give them ink, we don’t give them money, they DIDN’T Think/don’t have empathy –so they’re looking for praise –or silence. Period. They ain’t neva gonna admit their feet stink.
After system-wide August melt-down: I started another new blog, on another host, lowered my emotional connection/investment to the one here on WP, put my energy, brains, words, passion into the others. My blog has a high PageRank, gets read every day, whether I post or not. –Entire month of March, because of all the left-over bugs: not even one post. WP doesn’t care –I’m also indifferent –to their behavior; watched WP community scatter.
Google asks –all the time, what I think, at bottom of EVERY Help page, in surveys, Forums, e-mail; staff topic blogs; invites to test new things, try out/give Feedback.
But this is WP. WP: a steep learning curve, always was lots of work, to get familiar; they DON’T
ask about Your views –Not wanted. If the Dashboard fiasco bothers/that arrogance the ‘last straw’ realize: you don’t have control. Tolerate it. Or: just cut your content, find another host, start another blog –paste content and forget them. They won’t care. Most probably: They won’t even notice –they’ll still applaud themselves with “April stats” –of how many think their feet ‘smell fine.’
THEY aren’t going to change. Believe it. Don’t? Shut off your cookies –then look at your blog –every day for a month. That will give you a clue.

DItto here – screwed up – did they beta? Images, block quotes, indents all changed and not intuitive. Who was project manager? What didn’t work and what were you trying to fix??

Don’t get me wrong: I’m with the rest of you when it comes to wanting advance warning of this! They could have set up some sort of test area and invited an assortment of bloggers of hardware/OS/browser types to really bang on the thing. It was a bad hour for me last night when I couldn’t post images to my blog. I wouldn’t want to be WP Support this weekend. They must be swamped. (I hope WP is paying them lots of $$$!)

that’s the new dashboard???? i came in here to complain about some kind of malfunction i thought which had affected my dashboard. the old one was far better and easy on the eyes. this is messed up.
-
Someone from WP — Matts? — stated that the new Dashboard is comprised of widgets, so maybe that holds out hope that everyone can customize their Dashboard to their liking.
Personally, I’d rather have darker text. It’s all light blue for me. That is a potential disaster when viewing it on a screen outdoors (iPhone, Asus EeePC, upcoming Intel MID). Not enough contrast!

Lots of great feedback, here. I am not happy; already made my point back on another thread. Interested in @fromtheleft’s point about having left Blogger to come here and now feeling like it was the wrong move. Currently, I have feet in both camps – two blogs over there and two here. It’s a toss-up as to whether I’m staying. Would have been nice to be warned and to have the choice to stay with a ‘plain’ style dashboard. I have vision problems – it’s a very real concern. My eyes are already giving out and I’ve only been online an hour.
Good luck, to all concerned.
