Reaction to New Dashboard 98% Negative

ok you obviously do not handle change well
every change has its setbacks but also its benefits
look for good things that it bringsI am sure that wordpress is aware of certain problems
let’s make them aware if notbut to scrap a whole thing?
I do not think it is a solutionit looks good to me so far
but then I am a new user so I was lost to begin with 2 days ago
still managed to find my way
and I think will do once againI do agree that change should have been announced – that has been mismanaged
that certainly would help the reaction of people who do not cope well with changelike yourself

Unhappy surprise with the new dashboard today. It’s unintuitive, hard to operate, images are hard to upload, place or align, things disappear magically without warning (like the dashboard did) and I’m nearly ready to vacate. What exactly was improved here? We could use a good, visually clear tutorial page (that isn’t buried in the FAQs or forums) to learn the ropes. How about it, WordPress? Show us how to use it.

I wouldn’t mind change if I could see the point of it. So far the only new addition I’m likely to use is having the blockquote tag there on the menu. Which since it seems to have usurped the place of the spellchecker I would willingly trade!
Plus, to be blunt, it’s ugly. The menus take up over a thrd of the screen before you even get to the functional bits, the fonts chop and change, the buttons are ‘flat’ and give little feedback when pressed, if I write a long post I have to scroll back *UP* to be able to publish , the categories are off the bottom of the screen where I’ll forget about them (especially since I don’t have to scroll past them to get to the publish button.
If they’d *set out* to violate as many usability principles as possible they couldn’t have done much worse.
I’ll probably stick with it for my personal use, simply because that’s where my readers know where to find me, but for my workplace I’ll be changing as soon as possible.

I like the change. And the design changes are fine. Obviously, the functionality will be ironed out and all will be well with the world again (well almost).

poppy8sd,
What host are you on now? If this is an example of how WordPress responds to 98% of members unhappy with the new dashboard mess, I can gladly take my 265,000+ readers to a new home.
Please buzz me with any details of where you moved to.
Regards,

I think it’s a stretch — a big one — to claim 98% are unhappy. The people posting here are a small fraction of the people blogging at wordpress.com.
This is a support forum. By its very nature, most of those posting here will be people who are having problems. You can’t extrapolate from that.

I wasn’t sure about the new Dashboard at first and it was sorta a shock to have it just appear – wish WordPress had given us a little notice. However, it’s growing on me and I’m actually starting to like it quite a bit. Everything that was there before (minus a few glitches which hopefully will be temporary) is still there and the crisp clean look of the dashboard summarizing the important stuff is rather useful. I say, give it a chance before you start demanding the old one back.

I don’t really like the new dashboard that much. I like the new colors, and even the concept, but I can’t figure out how to upload images from my harddrive. I have a comic blog, so that’s kind of a problem. I don’t use photobucket or anything else, so there isn’t a url upload. I would love if that bug was changed.

I like that you can now upload multiple images at once (no comfort for people still having problems uploading *anything*).
I *hate* that Categories are now *below* the entry screen. I keep forgetting now to add them and have to edit the post after publication!

I don’t *hate* the new dashboard.
I HATE that I can’t get the Editor to function properly. How about letting me center text; add a hyperlink; change font color; change font format; ect, ect, ect – THE FIRST TIME I TRY!
Some it, I can’t even do on the 5th, 6th, 7th, ad infinitum try.
Oh, and when I highlight text I want to edit (which the EDITOR is supposed to allow me to do), and click on [insert your favorite icon], I get a pop-up telling me: “You are about to navigate away from this page. All your changes will be lost. Are you sure you want to navigate away?”
Hello…I don’t want to navigate away. I haven’t made any changes – yet.
So, I’m sure that this weekend the bugs will get worked out; and things will be back to “normal” by mid-week. I can chill out a little.
But, why couldn’t some kind of warning/heads-up/notice have gone out first. If notice of the impending changes WAS sent, then said notice was so ineffective so as to actually be NO NOTICE AT ALL.
(Finally, I know it’s a little whiny to gripe about a free service. But, these forums provide the opportunity, so there you are.)

For one, the font on much of the dashboard is so tiny. Why is that necessary? There’s tons of white space! Also, I would have expected some better functionality to go along with this new look. Maybe I’m missing it or something. To me this seems like a UI redesign. Actual improvements for me would be: option to recategorize links in bulk, remove unused categories, have a larger box for categories so I don’t have to scroll down to select/deselect them (put the default category at the TOP of the list please), better widgets and a much wider selection of (better) templates.

I did not believe my eyes when I saw the new Dashboard. First terror gripped me, everything has become inconvenient, design altogether complete sh*t. The panel selecting certain blog has been very convenient, now I have nothing because it fits very long blog names.
I like that you can now upload multiple images at once, thank for that.

Goodness gracious this new dashboard sucks! My comments from others don’t even post and I can’t approve them! WTH bring back the OLD dashboard PLEASE!!!!!

Please please please please please please please please please please please please please bring back the old dashboard…………….. please!

There are numerous bugs and I am having tons of problems. I really can’t figure out how the heck this release actually was implemented when it is so fraught with glitches. And to do it on a Friday?
-
Sorry, when I wrote my previous comment I didn’t see the category management section which allows you to delete categories. So, thanks. I’m happy to have that.

I think it’s going to take awhile for them to work out all the bugs so until I use it for awhile, I won’t know how I feel about it. I’m not very technically inclined and this has been so easy to use in general and free to boot, so I think I will just wait and see what happens next. Even with the changes, I am able to do my simple little blog and that’s all I care about right now.

Hi all,
I’m having problems with the text editor. When I add empty lines between phrases or images in order to separate items for making it more visual, once I save the page, those spaces are ignored and text and images are mixed and overlaped.
Also the system don’t center the items that I want to be centered. What can I do? I’ve already removed my cache and restarted my browser and still the same proble. I’ve also proved with Mozilla Firefox and Explore.
Thanks in advance.
