Don’t like the color scheme, the width, the layout– it just all feels wrong to a degree I don’t believe I’ll be able to properly get used to. My blog used to feel like a sanctuary; now it feels remarkably awkward to try and post in it. Can there at least be an option to use the old layout? I was searching for one, like the way one can change skins on a message board. Can we at least have the OPTION to retain the old one? The color scheme, at the very least, was much more soothing.

I log off my site yester day and come back to my site today. And dashboard is all new. Gezzz, you guys could at least gave a warning about the change. But I guess I get use to it. Looks a little more user friendly.

bonniehull: if you’re not seeing what’s in the uploader tutorial video, we need to know what you’re seeing so we can fix it. Please contact support or post a new forum thread with a clear description.

nighwheel: I suppose if you do not look at the forums or read the wordpress blogs it might seem as a surprise and these changes appear “out of the blue” but many people were actually waiting for the changes to occur weeks in advance… Plus many knew that the change was bound to occur soon as wordpress.org made the switch recently..

You always have the option to use the old layout if you get independent hosting and run an old version of WordPress software. But then you’re on your own. Still, it’s an option if you really find this interminable.
And you can change the colours on your Profile page, which you never could do before.

I think the new dashboard is fine (except for the bugs). People complain a lot about changes and most of these people will calm down after a few days and get used to it. My biggest complaint isn’t the change – but the lack of real warning about the change. I have lost data because of this change (already reported to support) and if I knew it was coming I could have backed up my widget data before it was lost. Forum posts or offsite blog posts aren’t the way to let people know changes are coming – the FRONT PAGE NEWS should have been utilized.

I love the way the WP.com guys do an upgrade at the weekend and then slope off until the dust settles! I’m working at getting used to the changes and extensions. If I can do it, anyone can do it. I would like the spellcheck to be reinstated, though — I expect it was an oversight.
The only thing that worries me is how the changed dashboard and entry pages will feel to an absolutely new, tyro blogger with little or no web experience. Will they be frightened away? Is that necessarily a bad thing?

I don’t mind the look. But I really don’t know how to attach files anymore. This is a key function for my blog. Please HELP! Thanks!

@oldgreypoet, thanks for adding a fresh and important point to the discussion. I don’t think that the redesign will scare off people new to WordPress.com – quite the opposite. More at:http://changingway.org/2008/04/07/wordpress-25-and-usability-for-whom/

Why did you guys waste time on this redesign in the first place? Why not spend that time improving something concrete, like stats? And bringing back feed stats? Bring back feed stats!
-
The interesting thing about all this is that so far it seems to be mostly English-speaking bloggers showing up here. I look at Recent Posts from time to time and see many non-English posts. Are there non-English forums like this for those people too?
-
i don’t mind the change as much as i am disappointed that i can’t modify my dashboard to what i want. i don’t need the stats window on my dashboard, but there is no option to let me remove it…there is no option to let me customize it. (which i would think is a easier fix than to redo the whole dashboard again)
-
It’s been said the new Dashboard is nothing but widgets. So at some point in the future we might be able to customize it.

I absolutely LOATH the new Dashboard. The image upload process is FAR less intuitive and the presentation of it in general is a good 12 steps below what existed before. I would be very happy to have the old Dashboard returned instantly… I had been really promoting WordPress as having a wonderful and easy to use process – I shall no longer be recommending WordPress at all. I am most heartily displeased by this change. From an end user perspective, this has utterly turned me off.
-
I would like to be able to see both my sidebars side-by-side so I can move widgets without having to look back and forth between two browser windows. This is a MUST for users who like three-column layouts.
Also, where did my stats for search terms go?

I actually like the new dashboard a lot better. I am working on a lot of posts simultaneously and had some trouble keeping track of all the post in their various stages using the old “manage” interface. Now I can easily switch between drafts and pending posts, and also filter unpublished posts by category (I never figured out how to do that under the old interface). One feature that seems to have gone though is the word count (after you saved a draft, it would tell you how many words it had). Or has it just moved to someplace else?
@mikecane: well English is the global language, so even people like me posting in a different language can follow an English-language forum ;) … there is a German language forum for WordPress, but traffic there seems to be low: http://de.forums.wordpress.com/ only 5 posts on the new design, and the thread was started by a moderator… (actually the majority of Internet pages is still written in English, see this link for some statistics, figures range from 30% to 86%)

With help from the WordPress staff I’ve figured out how to do everything I could do before now. Thank you for all your assistance.
