Reactivate Expired Domain Name
-
How do I Reactivate my Expired Domain Name which appears in the WordPress “Domain Management” screen? I had it for a while and let it expire. It is available. Can I reactivate and map it using WordPress’s web site, and if so is it simply a matter of ticking the domain name that’s already there but it says it’s expired?

o8226.com expired in February and has since been returned to the public market.
There was a bit of an issue on this end, but you can now re-register it by adding it via Store -> Domains in your blog’s Dashboard.

Thank you Macmanx.
I went ahead and repurchased the o8226.com domain name and mapping. Now, should I select the new domain name as the “update primary domain” and will the old o8226.wordpress.com redirect to the new domain name or die off?
At the moment I still have several of the o8226.wordpress.com out there and don’t want to end up unwittingly sending a visitor to the dreaded 404 page.

If you set o8226.com as “Primary” then assuming you mapped to o8226.wordpress.com all links to o8226.wordpress.com will go to o8226.com – seamless – no 404 errors

Hi again,
Just want to confirm that if I perpetually was to use EITHER o8226.com or o8226.wordpress.com BOTH URL’s will forward to o8226.com automatically?
Thanks in advance,

If o8226.com is the Primary – then links from BOTH o8226.wordpress.com and o8226.com will end up on the same Post or Page – your VISITORS will see o8226.com in their Browser window – all the old links should work as long as you did not delete something on your blog
