Hi there, In order to map a domain you already own to your WordPressdotcom site you’ll need one of our upgrade Plans.

Here’s more information on domain mapping, including name server information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Let us know if you need any other information.

Okay sure. I have paid and upgraded now.

My Domain was through Net registry and I have supplied them with the NS now also.

Since I have upgraded how long will it take to have access back to all my previous content and when will I be able to start blogging again?

For some reason on my wordpress account I also have all these “other” sites listed in various forms of my original site name – can i delete them? Example stormcourtneycom.wordpress

Sorry If these are simple questions – still trying to wrap my head around it all.

    Thanks again

  • Every site on WordPress.com has a free “WordPress.com” domain attached to it. Even if you upgrade to a paid account, this free domain name will be there. When you don’t renew a paid plan, this is the domain name which holds all your content.

If you delete it, means you’ll lose your content and everything.

Okay I see, I have a few there now, stormcourtneycom, stormcourtneyblog, stormcourtneysite, stormcourtneydotcom, So you think it is best to just leave them there?

  • stormcourtneyblog.wordpress.com is linked to https://stormcourtney.com/

You can delete other sites if you think you don’t need those sites. Do note that once you delete a site, you won’t be able to use its web address again. The instructions to delete a site can be found on https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ page.

As an alternative, you can choose to make these sites Private so that no one is able to see these and in case you need to use these in future. You can make your site “Private” by following the instructions mentioned on https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/ page.

    Okay sure – Thank you.

Also when I type in my website stormcourtney.com it says the domain is still parked? Do I usually have to wait a while before it is active again?

I can’t seem to access any of my old content either though WP. I was hoping all my old blogs etc would be there and all the content I had set up. Since I had used this address and site before should it not be all there now?

I hope I don’t have to start all over again..

DNS propagation may take some time.

Are you looking for the correct WordPressdotcom website which was attached to your domain name before you let it expire? Have you upgraded the same WordPressdotcom site to use stormcourtney.com domain name?

  • I have added modlook tag to this thread for the attention of the support staff. Please wait while someone from support team responds to you.

Oh my I sure hope so!

My renewed domain was stormcourtney.com on netregisty and I reactivated that one.

I couldn’t find that in my wordpress account so I had to map it again and upgrade which I did.

It seems I have http://www.stormcoutney.com and stormcourtney.com on “mysites” I hope that i had paid for the right one.

In my followed sites I can see my old blog and website! I just can’t access it anywhere :(

Just an update – The domain is not parked anymore but its definitely pointing to the wrong word press site…. This looks like one I have to set up from scratch :(

Is there any way to check what my old one was? It could have been http://www.stormcourtney.com – is there anyway to point it back to that and have the upgrade I paid for for my old site?

Hello again, I see that @akumarjain has tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

stormcourtney.com is currently mapped to a brand new site at stormcourtneyblog.wordpress.com

All these others appear to be new sites as well:
    stormcourtneycom.wordpress.com
    stormcourtneysite.wordpress.com
    stormcourtneydotcom.wordpress.com

What is the underlying WordPressdotcom URL that your domain was originally mapped to?

Is it possible that your WordPress site was using the standalone WP software and hosted with another web hosting provider? https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  • Unknown's avatar

That is my issue I can’t seem to find what the underlying wordpressdotcom URL I had originally as everything has disappeared and I can’t see it in my wordpress profile at all.

I had bought the domain through Net Registry but I was using WP for the site and everything else.

I can see my old content under sites I “follow” but can’t seem to find out what the original WP URL was.

I assume the engineers would be able to see in my profile somewhere?

    Hi stormyb84,

The domain history for stormcoutney.com shows the domain has never been pointed at WordPress.com name servers until you recently added domain mapping. This means the domain was being used for an external site instead.

There are two types of WordPress:

    • WordPress.com — where the site is hosted by us
    • WordPress.org — where the site is hosted with a company of your choice

The differences between the two are explained in more detail here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I can see the domain was being used for a self hosted WordPress.org site, connected to your WordPress.com account using the Jetpack plugin. Without the Jetpack plugin, you would not be able to access that site from your account here.

stormcourtney.com is currently mapped to stormcourtneyblog.wordpress.com. If you don’t need the domain pointing for that site, I can cancel and refund your plan.

The domain can be pointed back to the original site but there are a couple of things you need to do first:

    1. Speak to your hosting provider and ask for their name servers
    2. Login to your Netregistry account and add those name servers to the domain

I’m happy to answer any questions you have!
