Hi there,
I’m not sure I understand the issue you are having. Where on your site have you added a Read More link so we can take a closer look. Can you share the URL to that page so we can see it on our end?
The More block does work on free sites so it sounds like there may be some issue instead. Thanks for the additional info!

my page is https://efriendwp.wordpress.com/
see for example the first on top article saying just test1 test2. well between them there is a “read more” command but when i load the page all appeas doesnt stop to test 1. -
Hi,
I see what happened there. You used the Read More Link block. Just replace it with the More block, which is the proper way to show excerpts of your posts. Here’s how to configure that block:

Hi there,
I’ve visited your site and I do not see any blog posts loading there at the moment. Did you modify your homepage template to remove the display of blog posts you had there previously?

why??One thing I wanted to mention is that I see you are using the “Blank Canvas” theme, which is intended to be something of a starter theme for advanced users who are accustomed to creating themes from scratch. By default it does not have a way to display blog posts for example, as you can see from the demo here: https://wordpress.com/theme/blank-canvas-blocks/
It sounds like you are trying to set up a blog, but I’m not sure I would recommend this theme as a starting point, due to how stripped-down it is. Have you considered switching to a different theme instead? As mentioned above, it is possible to set up blog posts with a “continue reading” link, even if you are using one of our free sites. It’s just the case that you picked a theme that is particularly hard to set up a blog on.
Instead I would recommend any of the other themes you see here as a starting point: https://wordpress.com/themes
For example, this is a theme that has a minimalist look that is similar to Blank Canvas, but is set up so you can start blogging without any extra work: https://wordpress.com/theme/zoologist/
If you are curious about how much you can customize this theme, you may want to watch this previous webinar we offered, which shows how to modify this exact theme (Zoologist) for a completely custom look, including blog posts that show a brief excerpt followed by a “continue reading” link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0-eXFwIuRM
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

i selected that theme but i had already imported posts from blogger to previous theme and it seems they are here as well but messed up. also page stucks many times. also no pics from my posts. in other words everything is not good, but i strongly appreciate your help. dont think that theme is good enough for me
-
There’s no need to create a new site and import your content. Instead, you can simply change the theme on your current site, and all your content will be preserved.
Also, if the Zoologist theme doesn’t work for you, you can browse our library and find a more suitable one. If you need help, let us know what features you want from a theme and what type of site/blog you’re looking to build. We’re happy to help you find a theme that meets your needs.

i changed the theme twice, have the same results https://efriendwp.wordpress.com/ cannot seem to be able to make a blog in addition that i can make pages-site more easily. why is blog so difficult. i want to migrate my site https://www.efriend.gr/ to wordpress in case i make it maybe ill buy space. but this is the simple type of blog i need https://www.efriend.gr/
thank you for your time and effort, i ll keep trying

Hi, so this is a bit complicated to explain. First, understand most themes have an “index” page that lists posts, and how that page displays depends on the theme:
Here are two different theme’s styles for that:
https://escutcheondemo.wordpress.com/
https://librettodemo.wordpress.com/You’ll notice Escutcheon shortens every single post. It doesn’t display a “Read More” button after every shortened post in the list, because the user is supposed to click on the post title instead. So when you use Escutcheon, the style of the read more button … is to not display a button, and just have the user click a link.
Compare that to Libretto. It does not shorten posts by default, so when a blogger wants to use the “Read More” feature, it’s designed to make the Read More button look fancy, like this:

So you’ll notice, in your site with Escutcheon, the text cuts off where you inserted your Read More link. That’s expected.
Newer editable themes, like Blank Canvas (which again, is quite advanced, so maybe Zoologist would be a better bet) allow you to add a Read More Button to your theme, if you want to, and style it as you’d like. Or you could just pick a theme that has stylized Read Mores built in. Just know it will likely be a theme that does not display excerpts on front page, and most do that now by default.
I hope this helps.

also i noticed that not even photos are shown to first line of post even if you have it in the design mode. i have used blank canvas no luck there read more doesnt work
anyway thanx i ll try those 2 u mentioned me
-
Correct, photos usually don’t show in excerpts. Escutcheon displays excerpts. Some themes add a featured image as well, but that’s all.
And it’s possible in Blank Canvas but a bit fiddly.
If you’ll let us know what you want to see (full posts unless there’s “Read More”, photos? etc?) we can point you in the right direction.

you know what i dont really think wordpress is good for blogs (correct me if i am wrong), blogger is way better and easier. for example i use a feature image, works on view mode but i dont see it in the design view! for god shake! is this fixable to see the exact structure of my post at the design view (including the picture)? or not?
secondly i am trying to place three simple dots underneath text 1 and only https://librettodemo.wordpress.com/ does it. i hit enter i hit shift enter i use paragraph block nothing to other themes! why wordpress is so messed up?i cant do simple design things with a blog creation. isnt that the purpose of wordpress at first place? blogs?
