“Read more” Feature in pages
-
I have a couple of questions.
1- Can we have the “Read more” feature in pages.
2- If so, can we have more than one per page?
(the reason I ask is that I want to have sub-titles and then body text, but I only want to show the sub-titles and once you click on more… than you can read the body text.)Here is my site: http://whiteaisle.wordpress.com
This is the page I would like to do this with: http://whiteaisle.wordpress.com/reception-%C2%B0-reception/thanks, in hopes i get an answer very soon!!!

I think you’re out of luck with the More tag on pages. What you could do is make separate sub-pages for each of the locations you list and link to those on the reception page.

Ya thanks drmike. Unfortunately I am using the Blix theme and the nextpage tag isnt an option… or if it is I have no clue where to find it. This really sucks. Hopefully theres another way.

Using the text rich editor the icon to use is number 13. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/
Using the standard editor there’s a [more] button.
However, you can simply try typing the more tag <!–more–> into the text and see what happens. -
@TT:
snobkels needs help with the next page tag (for pages). Can you tell him/her how to use it (i have no clue)? -
@snobels and judyb12
The instructions I gave above work on other themes. However, I just tried on a test blog with the Blix theme to use the more tag in a page and it did not work. I’m sorry to say that I think if you’re sticking to this theme that you’ll have to give up the idea of using the more tag. :( -

But as a readability issue, I don’t think the More tag is very helpful in pages. After all, every page is designed to hold exactly ONE unit of content, no more. Everyone clicking on it presumably is prepared to read one entry, and read that whole.
If this is to increase pageviews, please be aware that WordPress.com does not count hits on pages at all. At. All. They do not count at all, so upping views of your Pages rather than your Posts won’t help you in any way, shape or form.

i use the nextpage tag in my other wpmu blog because i think it’s more reader-friendly to read texts in short bursts than one whole chunk together.
-
no problem!
do note if it doesn’t work, it’s because the theme isn’t compatible to it. just find one theme that does (usually the “professional” looking themes).

i don’t know, but i had problems with certain themes using the nextpage tag. it just doesn’t show the page numbers in that page. i reported it to feedback in that other blog, and the support team had to do something with theme before it would show the page numbers.

The nextpage tag is theme specific. It has to be hardcoded into the theme.
Heck, you have to dig through the docs in the codex to find anything about it. It’s not a well know feature which is probably why it’s not in a lot of themes.

I tried the <!–nextpage–> and it created an error. So I guess it doesnt work.
I am using the Blix theme, and I guess it isnt compatible.
The reason why I want this for my pages, is because I am creating a phone directory with regions.
If I dont have the read more feature, people need to scroll for an eternity to find the region that corresponds to them. Its annoying.But if anyone else has suggestion…
-
The <!–nextpage–> feature does not work in some themes like Blix so the only suggestion I can make is that if you need this feature on your blog then changing themes may be the way to go.
