Read More tab insertion not working

I can’t get the read more tab to insert into a page! I do what the support page says to do and while it shows up in the page editor, it won’t show up on the actual page. I’ve tried putting <–more–> into text view and that doesn’t result in anything either. Why isn’t it working and how can I get around it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

More tags are for posts. They won’t work on pages. You may use pagination on pages.

A page is by definition on one page. It’s not in the main stream of posts. So it doesn’t need a More tag. If you want to jump from one static page to another, make separate static pages and link them.

Thanks for the information about pagination, I will try that. I actually wanted something that would work the same way as the read more tab. I have a block of text that I wanted to hide a portion of unless people wanted to read it specifically, so it doesn’t make the page too long. I do understand the concept of “a page” but I didn’t really want people to have to go to a separate static page.
