Read More tag/html and the Gateway Theme
-
I recently started using the Gateway theme and seem to be running into an issue. I see that with this theme, the “Read More” tag doesn’t seem to work–on my main blog page, the visible post defaults to four lines of text regardless of where the html or tag is placed. It’s possible that I’m doing something wrong, but I’m not sure what. I tried making a bunch of test posts and the issue seems to remain.
Is there a way to customize the amount of text that appears on the main blog page? I was hoping that the page could feature larger excerpts of text, not a kind of archive/listing.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

Hi there, by default, Gateway uses the WordPress core excerpt function, which will pull the first 55 words on each post. The Read More tag will not have an effect on the length of the excerpt.
What you will want to do is to use the Custom Excerpt feature in the post editor and copy/paste the text you wish used as the excerpt into that module below the text area in the editor. See our support page for more on Custom Excerpts.
