Read more tags

  I’m looking for a mechanism specific to email blog followers that will only send them a portion of the post so they have to click thru to read more. When reading about the Read More Tags, it only mentions truncating the posts on my site. Any suggestions?

  Hi macdowelltaylor — you can show a summary of the post only (instead of the full post) in the email. The setting to adjust is located in the WP Admin area of your dashboard, which you can access by adding “/wp-admin” to the end of your homepage URL:

  https://taylormacdowell.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

  Then, in the left-side menu, go to Settings > Reading and click “Summary” next to “For each article in a feed, show”.

  Cheri,
  Thanks so much for the information. Do I need to specify what the “summary” is? And do I do that in the field called “excerpt”? Or does WP automatically use the text before the Read More Tag as the summary?

  @macdowelltaylor if you specify an excerpt, we’ll send that. If you don’t, we’ll send the first few lines of your post before a “read more” tag if you’re using those.
