“Read the rest of this entry” tab makes the jump but left side is removed.
-
When I click “Read the rest of this entry” under the first photo of my “Family, Friends and Neighbors” post, the jump to the full text is made but 5-10% of the left side of text and images is missing. I searched the forums but could find nothing like this. Has anyone else had the problem? Can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Could you provide a link to your current blog? When I click on your username, it takes me to a deleted blog…

The link is http://doodlemeister.com/ Thank you for responding, and perhaps I should add that I’ve been able to get the full text when I click on the ling from outside the WordPress site. And that one other person trying to read the post in question had the same trouble I had. So I guess that complicates things even more. Again, thanks for any insight you can provide.

It looks like the pictures aren’t scaling to fit in the space available. Here’s something you can try: add a width attribute in the img tag, like this:
<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-37 alignleft" style="float:left;" src="http://doodlemiester.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/sisters45.jpg" alt="" width="95%" />It may or may not work, depending on how it interacts with the theme and the styling. I’m working on a post right now where it solved exactly the same type of “cutting off” problem.

It looks like you might need to add it to the first two pictures in order for it to work.

First of all, hello to another Baltimorean. I had happen to me what is happening to you, a long time ago. And for me, it was because I copied/pasted the posting from another word processing program like Word? Singularcontiguity seems good with the HTML editing stuff, and should be able to correct your problem :) But, if you are using another editor to copy/paste, it is prone to screw things up.

diamondfistwerny,
Thanks for mentioning that – I’m not really familiar yet with how WordPress operates, which is why I’m hanging out on the forums. :-)

Thanks for the suggestion, singularcontiguity, but I’m totally non-techie and the idea of messing around in the blog brains scares the hell out of me. Do you think I could get the same results by reducing the size of the images and exchanging them for the ones now in place? (BTW, they measure 504×334 pixels, which translates to approx. 7″ X 4.6″) Do you know if there is an ideal width for images placed in blogs, or does it vary depending on the theme design? Thank you again for all your help and your patience.

You’re welcome.
I’ve never heard of HTML and CSS referred to as “blog brains” before. :-)
Reducing the size of the images may well do the trick. You’ll have to play a bit with the size to figure out how wide to make them; you’ll probably want to make them a bit narrower than the width of the column, since some browsers will put a little bit of blank space around each of the images (that’s why I suggested the 95% above).

I reduced the width of the images (from 7″ to 6″), and in the process discovered the “Read the rest tag . . .” which I removed. Now, because the text no longer jumps, and it’s all there in one column, the problem is moot, but I’m not sure if the reduction in size would have done the job. Oh well, I’m learning a bit here and a bit there. Thanks again for your help, singularcontiguity, you’ve been very kind to take the time. (Note that I’ve marked the problem as “resolved.”)
