Read https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/reader-refresh/ and take note of the existing thread on this at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/photos-not-displayed-in-reader?replies=18

@bazallen, images were removed for blogs that were using summary feeds based on some feedback we received from blogs owners who wanted to limit what is in the Reader for their blogs. However, if enough readers are missing the images then we may add them back.
While that is being worked out, you may update your feed from “Summary” to “Full text” on the WP Admin > Settings > Reading to get the images to start showing up again.

Hmm…my settings show full text yet when I’m in the reader I don’t always see someone’s picture if they have one in their post. The blog I’m wondering about is https://lauramacky.wordpress.com/. I took a screenshot from my reader to show what I’m talking about. If you look at the screenshot, it doesn’t show a picture yet when I go to the blog there is a picture. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/562105597219528294/

My blog is not showing in the reader at all. This is my first post since the current reader changes. Not sure why this would be? http://www.breathelighter.wordpress.com

@ginagolightly
All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages and Reader can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts
The combined total of categories and tags on any post must not exceed 15 or it will not display on Categories and Tags pages and in the WordPress.COM Reader.If you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.
In that case you are are inadvertently spamdexing AKA tag spamming, you ought to be more concerned about your posts not appearing and being well ranked on Google and Bing SERPS (search results pages) than not appearing on the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for that.
The rule of thumb is to assign to your posts the least, not the most, combined number of only relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the individual post content.

Thank you, @timethief. I didn’t think I’d done more tagging than usual, but perhaps I have. That would be a very easy correction. I appreciate the response. Debra

Hmm…my settings show full text yet when I’m in the reader I don’t always see someone’s picture if they have one in their post.
That setting is for your blog only. Each blog owner controls the setting for their own blog, so if you aren’t seeing images for another person’s blog (such as the Victor Rakmil Photography blog), then it means that person has limited what you can see.
If you’re reading blogs from other people who have shut off full text feeds, and you really would like to see a better preview, you might consider contacting the blog owner and asking them politely if they would turn on “Full text” feeds on their WP Admin > Settings > Reading page.

@ginagolightly, I tested viewing your blog https://breathelighter.wordpress.com/ in the Reader and I found that I could see the latest post titled “Darwin isn’t the only giant in our garden!” showing up without any problems.
I also verified that your latest post is showing up in the blog feed view at https://wordpress.com/read/blog/feed/73476
If you are following a lot of other blogs that published posts after you published yours, then you might need to scroll for a while before you see your latest post.
