Reader App Suggestion: Preventing tag abuse

Browsing some tags in the Reader is ineffective because a handful of users abuse and publish dozens of posts hourly/daily to a given tag. See “technology” for example.

Suggesting a feature that could throttle this behavior and make tag browsing more enjoyable and diverse for the average blog reader.

  • Hi there,

We’re very aware of this type of abuse, and have been working on ways to prevent it, but I don’t think the idea of throttling has been considered yet. I’ll pass it along to the team on the Reader.

Meanwhile, if there’s a particular site you keep seeing in tag results that you don’t want to see, you can use the Reader’s built-in blocking feature to block that site from appearing in the Reader for you.

To block a site, click on the ellipsis menu in the bottom-right corner of a post card and select the Block option. Note that it’s not currently possible to unblock a site once you’ve blocked it, and the block option is not there if multiple posts from one site are being shown in a single card. Both these things are being worked on.

Thanks @kokkieh. SInce your suggestion I have now blocked a few “spammy” sites and that has greatly improved the experience of browsing a tag feed.

  • Happy to hear that Matt! Take care :)
