Reader – Cannot Unfollow Anything

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to clean up my Reader. I have 1 blog, and 2 WordPress hosted websites. I do not see any way to unfollow. There is NO green button.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

Try going to Followed Sites -> Manage in your Reader to display the list of blogs you follow. Find the blog you no longer wish to follow, then click the green word Following next to the name of the site to stop receiving notifications of new posts from that blog.

    Hope this helps.

I do not have the green word Following. It just is NOT there. Thanks. I am signing off for the night.

  • I am alerting staff to assist you by adding the tag “modlook” to this thread. They will be able to tell you what the problem is.

    All the best!

  • Hi there,

The word “Following” does not appear in the main Reader stream. To unfollow a site from there you need to click on the options menu that appears on each post.

If you click on an individual post in the stream, you’ll see an unfollow option there.

And if you click on the Manage button top left, you’ll see all your sites listed there with an unfollow link next to each one.

If you are not seeing those links, please try clearing your browser cache, and also make sure that JavaScript is enabled in your browser.

It’s a problem with my Chrome browser. The Following feature works in both Edge and Brave browsers. JavaScript is enabled in Chrome and cache was cleared. Chrome is my default browser and I don’t have any other problems.

I will use a non-chrome browser for now and continue to research the problem in my spare time. Thanks for your help.

Problem solved by white listing wordpress.com in Adblock . It was NOT the Chrome browser.

Have same problem on both Chrome and Edge. One can “follow” or “+follow”, which advances the site on the list; but there is no option to “unfollow”. This is the case when you visit a followed website, a post on a followed site, and when you click “manage” from a followed site.

Not the same problem. The problem I was describing has only white space where the follow button should be. People keep telling you to click a button that is not there. As soon as I white listed wordpress.com on Adblock, the follow button and text immediately became visible.

Thanks for the update. Ad-blocker extensions work by, among other things, blocking JavaScript in a browser, and some can be a bit over-enthusiastic, blocking legitimate code as well. One would think with the majority of modern websites heavily relying on JS these days the extension developers would refine a bit how their extensions work :)

    @gymnosperm

Do you have any ad-blockers installed in your browsers? Anti-malware extensions can also sometimes be the cause. Also make sure JavaScript hasn’t been deactivated in the browser in general:

Please check the screen shots I posted above. Do you see the “Following” link on those pages? If you do, you click there to unfollow. If you see nothing there, as @remnant179 did, something in those browsers are most likely blocking the code.
