Reader displays gallery, not featured image
-
I use the Fontfolio theme, which supports featured images. All of my posts are “standard” format. I will always choose a featured image to display on my homepage and to make sure it will show up in the reader. What I’ve noticed, however, is that if I have a gallery in my post, the gallery shows up. This occurs even though I will also have the featured image included separately in the post. Interestingly, if I view the reader on my mobile phone, the featured image DOES show and not the gallery. Can you explain 1) if there is a way to make certain the featured image takes precedence over a gallery in the Reader, and 2) why the functionality is different on the mobile platform? Thanks so much!

Currently, when a post with the Standard, Aside, Link, Quote, or Status post format contains a video or audio embed or slideshow, that embed is pulled out and used in the Reader. Otherwise, it uses an image from the post.
If the post has the Gallery or Image post format, a video or audio embed in that post would not be used in the Reader – one or more images would be used instead.
The way our RSS feeds work is that it pulls and displays the first image it finds inside the post content. When the Reader looks for an image, it goes for the featured image first and then an image inserted into the post — if there are no images that meet the size criteria mentioned above, it will display the image as a thumbnail instead of a large image.

Is there any way you know of to “force” the reader to choose a featured image over an embedded slideshow? Some code to put into the specific post, for instance?
