Reader Doing Odd Things
-
My reader has stopped sending me to blogs and now adds another layer – so that if I click on a title I go the text and not to the blog, then have to click again to reach the blog.
Did I change a setting by accident? Or has a change been introduced by WP?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Quick tip: you can cmd+click on a title in the main Reader view to open the post directly.
Or you can also click the title twice like you described before.
-
And how can I set my blog posts to “preview only” in the reader? As they were set before this update?
-
Oh right. It’s an improvement. Hmm.
I suppose there always had to be one person who doesn’t see an improvement as an improvement.

The user interface changes will never end. That is what we bloggers have to accept as no software will ever be frozen time. If you have constructive feedback please post it here.

I see you have posted this question in a few different places already, please head over to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-set-my-blog-posts-to-preview-only-in-the-new-reader?replies=3 to discus that issue further.

@thoughtfullyprepping, some of the updates involved were around how the code works and were done to help manage the massive amount of content that gets published on WordPress.com every day better and faster. We are also always making continuous improvements to the design as we go. This is how WordPress.com works and gets updated.

The new Reader Page is one of the worst ‘updates’ in the history of WordPress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did I accent ‘worst’ strong enough!

Note also:
… Views and likes made in the reader are not counted. Nor are views made by staff or users (admins and authors) on the site.
What is likely happening is that the visitors are visiting your site either in a feed reader or the WordPress.com Reader. As such, those views are not being counted or shown in the stats. From

Wait, “likes” made in the reader aren’t counted? Then what is the purpose of the “like” button in the reader?
-
I think that quote sounds weird out of context. I _think_ what they meant is that if someone likes your post from the reader, a view is not added to the stats page, which explains why there might be more likes than views. Does that help clarify?
-
-
I think some people like certain titles or featured images or short content or even just use the likes a way to bookmark something to come back to later in the “Posts I Like” page. For others, it’s a way to show support. There are lots of different reasons for different people to want likes in the Reader so they can use them in a way that makes sense for them.
-
I don’t understand, I am getting less views and less likes on every post I make.
How can this be a good thing?
Why don’t you just take the like button off, if likes no longer mean anything?
-
Well, I just “liked” a post in the reader, then went to that person’s blog to see if the like appeared there, and it did. So it seems that clicking “like” in the reader will add to the total “like” count on a post, even if it doesn’t register as a “view”.
