Reader Issues Again

The one from yesterday was not in the Reader this morning. It appears that when I published today’s post, it pushed the one from yesterday into the Reader. It wasn’t there until I published today though. Come to think of it. My posts that haven’t gone into the Reader, usually show up after I post a new one. Does that make sense? Thanks for keeping on this Velda.

Thank you, Velda. I have to post more often for the next week since my Scout campaign will be coming to an end soon.

No problem at all, loridr. I’m sorry we missed it earlier. Usually the forum volunteers will spot people needing staff help and get our attention, and as staff we also try to look through to see who needs our help. I’m glad we’re able to help you now. :)

I am running into the same problem. It just started today, but when I go to the website, nothing shows up. I have cleared browser cache. I have everything set to public, and it was working find until I switched to this theme yesterday. Event then the problem didn’t show up until today. Now it intermittently stops posting, and it seems to stem from when I modify the menu structure. I monkeyed around with it earlier and got it to show up again, but I honestly tried so many steps that I don’t know what to replicate now. So currently it is not showing any posts despite having many out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi Velda – My post was scheduled to go up this morning at 8:17am. It’s not in the Reader once again. I hope it can go up today. It’s very important to me. Thank you for anything you can do for me. – Lori

Hi Velda – I apologize, but this week is so important for my posts to show up in that Reader. I had to reblog it and then delete the reblog in order to get the original to show up. I absolutely need my posts to go in there this week. It’s my last week of my Scout campaign.

Hi @candlelifeministries, just to confirm are you you having trouble with your posts showing up in the reader? If not, can you start a new thread and add the “modlook” tag?

Okay, it happened again. My post is not going into the Reader. I even tried trashing it and reposting . . . nothing. I also had an issue this time where it said that my browser was updating and it stopped functioning. I couldn’t get anywhere on my blog for about 10 minutes. However, I was able to maneuver other websites, so it was only WordPress. Is this another hack?
Regardless, my posts are still not showing up in the Reader. HELP!

Don’t know if anything was done by you guys, but it just showed up now in the Reader. At this point in time, still no email notification.

Lori, the same thing happened to me today – I think this was just a blip at the WP end. However, I’ve had similar problems to you in the past, and have found one workaround that works most of the time for me, so thought I’d share.
If I prepare a post in advance, then wait till I want to publish it, then press Publish, sometimes it gets published with the date and time that I drafted it rather than when I published it, so it ‘disappears’ from the Reader, because it’s way down the list. (Hope that makes sense.) So now, before I press Publish, I always press, Save Draft. This updates the time and date of the draft, so that when I then immediately press Publish, it comes out right, and shows up in the Reader in the right place. It works about 99% of the time. Good luck!

Oh, and also, if a post doesn’t show up in the Reader, sometimes going into Edit Post and pressing Update works… sometimes!

Thank you fictionfanakaff for these tips. I will definitely give them a try. I noticed that if I post a new blog after the one that doesn’t show up, it posts the old one in the Reader. But, the old one goes in order by date so it’s way down the list on the Reader.
Thanks again for taking the time to share this. BTW, I may be needing a book review in the near future. ;-)

@fictionfanakaff if you’re having similar issues, we’d love to take a look and try to sort out what’s wrong. We’re trying to find patterns, and your feedback can help. I can also “fix” the site for you in the meantime by running a script on our end.

@supernovia, the problem seemed to be associated with pages that were created from specific categories. I have a category for news, and I had a separate page set up for it.
I ended up deleting all pages and posts and reloading from saved files I had on my PC. I reloaded the categories and pages and re-linked them accordingly and it seemed to work just fine. I’m not sure where things got goofed. But the category thing would be a good place to start debugging if you need to.
An extra note is that I noticed that when I was modifying categories at one point, that I would get the error message that the category didn’t exist. This would even be for new ones that I added or that I clicked EDIT for (quick edit didn’t have a problem). Oddly, though, they would show when I would use the back arrow or refresh. But so long as I was getting those error messages in the categories and using specific categories for pages, then content would not display.
Right now, I don’t think I need any additional help, but you are welcome to check the history in my site if you need to debug anything. If I run into any additional issues, I will post a new forum post on it.

Thanks @candlelifeministries, we’ll watch for that pattern. There was a bug with categories in wp-admin for a bit, and I think it’s probably unrelated, but we’ll watch for correlations there too.
