Reader List Bugs

    Dear WP,

I finally managed to create a reader list (https://en.support.wordpress.com/reader-lists/) using the JAWS screen reader, only to run into more difficulties.

First, when I’m edditing a list, I’d like to be able to order the list of blogs—or at least sort them alphabetically—but there’s no way to do this.

And when I’m viewing a list, I’m presented with a list of posts from all blogs in the list in chronological order. It would be great if I could collapse the list down to just the list of blogs and browse entries by blog.

Speaking of blogs, I tried to add this URL to a list:

    http://blog.uvm.edu/jgm/

but it’s title wouldn’t show up in the list. So I tried again and was told it had already been added to the feed! >:(

I decided to delete the list so I could try again, but the list still showed up in my list of reader lists. The only way to completely delete a list is to create a new list with the old name, and then go back and change the name. Buggy!

Lastly, I take exception to WP’s description of lists as public. In order to view a list, you must be signed in with a WP username. How is that public? :?

I look forward to your response to the topics raised above.

    John

  • Hi again @johnoregan, some of these aren’t so much bugs as they are feature requests, but I’ve passed along more feedback from this thread.

I’ve also confirmed I see the same issue when trying to add that site to a list. I’ve reported that to our developers as well, and will let you know what we find out. Cheers :)

    Hi Supernovia,

Thanks for alerting the Powers That Be to the problems I’ve encountered with Reader Lists. I hope the problem with

    http://blog.uvm.edu/jgm/

and sites like it can be resolved.

I admit that sorting entries on the edit screen and collapsing/expanding posts on a per blog basis on the view screen are feature requests. But the ability to completely delete a list is basic functionality, imho. And if a list is advertised as public, anyone should be able to view it without the need to first sign in to WP… again, that’s just my opinion.

I hope these last two points will be addressed.

  • Hi again, I talked to the reader team about this. We’ll start here:

Lastly, I take exception to WP’s description of lists as public. In order to view a list, you must be signed in with a WP username. How is that public? :?

I’ve fixed our documentation. This should be public to WordPress.com users.

    http://blog.uvm.edu/jgm/

This issue isn’t fixed yet but they’re aware of the cause and working on it.

Re: the other feature requests: they’re actually working on an update right now to the lists management, so we won’t be adding features to this version right now. But they do have the feedback for consideration at least, so thank you for sending that. I hope that helps.

    Hi Again,

Thanks for looking into this for me.

Please let me know when the issue with http://blog.uvm.edu/jgm/ is resolved.

And don’t forget to tell the techies that lists can’t be deleted.

Lastly, on an unrelated note, I’ve spotted a few typos on Support pages. How do I report them?

    John

  • @johnoregan if it’s the same support page, you can report them here. Or feel free to open a new thread. And they’ve read your thread. Thanks again for the feedback.
