Reader not showing new posts from blogs I follow
-
Thanks everyone for the data.
I talked to to the developers who work on the reader about this and based on the “sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t” nature of the problem, I think you are having trouble with a “gap” issue that they are working on.
Right now, if you visit the reader and then go away for a couple days and come back, we show the most recent 7 posts, then the 7 from a few days ago and gap in the middle.
To avoid the gap, refresh your reader page before you start reading. That will force the reader to fill in the missing posts.
As I said we are working on a real fix for this on our end as well, but in the meantime, refreshing will help you avoid missing posts.

Thank you for letting me know its being looked into. However ‘the gap’ as you have described cannot be the reason. I use the reader to read blogs every day, sometimes more than once a day.
Also, I have had feedback from other that they didnt see posts of mine but they had used the reader that day because they had commented on blogs that we both follow. Also, posts have been missing from prolific bloggers who may make more than one post a day. Then the post shows up the next time I use the reader. -

Do you leave the reader in an open tab, or do you open it from scratch every time?
Then the post shows up the next time I use the reader.
This is what makes me think it’s part of the same gap issue–that the reader isn’t pulling every post, every time–except when the browser is hard refreshed.
I’ll keep digging, to be sure. In the meantime, could you also refresh your browser window before you read each time, and let me know if that makes a difference?
One more thing: Are you using the reader primarily on your desktop or on mobile? If it’s mobile, could you tell me which mobile device(s) you use? Do you see the problem more often one place or the other?
-
I open it fresh each time from my mobile – I have a Samsung Galaxy Fame. On my laptop (windows 8.1 OS) it varies.
But yes, I will try refreshing next time I am in my laptop.
Thank you -
Thank you lizthefair,
I also use every day as well. I do not leave it open, but I do not sign in and out of WP. I will start doing that and also use the refresh button as well. Thank you for looking at the problem. :)

Also having this problem! I use a Macbook, and my phone is an Android 4 Mini. A lot of them just aren’t showing up. I know for sure these:
whennothinggoeswrite.com
dangerosajones.wordpress.com
http://www.lilithsaintcrow.com/daily-grind/because I have them on email alert, and it will show up in my email, but not in my reader. I know for a fact there are more, but I’m not sure what they are because they’re not showing up.
Thank you for looking into this.

aspirationsofflight–thanks for the additional info.
Could you try hard refreshing as well? I went into your account and was able to find the most recent post from dangerosajones.wordpress.com.
That having been said, you follow a lot of very active blogs, so the combo of the “gap” problem and the shear number of posts in your reader means it’s probably going to be difficult for you to see every single post from all 400 blogs your follow. Getting e-mail notices for the most important posts and reading the rest in the reader is probably going to work best for your personally.
-
Wow, I didn’t even know I followed that many. Maybe it’s time to weed.
The gap problem is good to know! Does a hard refresh need to be anything besides clicking the refresh button next to the URL in the browser?

Just clicking the button should do it!

Hi, I just wondered if there is any update on this issue? I have noticed an improvement but I have noticed some missing posts still. A couple have shown up on a tag search but not under “blogs I follow”. This happened on both my laptop and mobile, despite refreshing. Also there was a 3 day gap in the reader on my mobile yesterday.
Thanks -
Hi @oldmamoon,
I have noticed an improvement but I have noticed some missing posts still.
Are the posts you’re missing still from the blogs you mentioned previously? If possible, could you specify one or two blog posts that you recently noticed missing from your Reader? This would really help me dig a bit deeper!
Also there was a 3 day gap in the reader on my mobile yesterday.
3-day gap meaning the latest post displayed was 3 days old or after a certain number of posts, there was a 3-day gap with no posts?
-
Hiya,
This is one of the blogs I missed posts from http://dadojodest.com/
I opened the reader on my phone, and there were maybe 3-4 new posts, then the next ones were from 3 days prior to that. This does happen from time to time, even if I opened the reader earlier that day or the day before. The longest ‘gap’ I saw was 11 days.
But why are blogs I follow only showing up under a tag search and not in ‘Blogs I follow’? The most recent one this happened with is
https://lanilongshore.wordpress.com/I hope this helps.
-
Aha!! I have just found an example of a blog post showing up under a tag search that didnt show up under blogs I follow
-
Thanks so much for digging into this! I was able to find the blog post you mention after scrolling back quite a ways in your Reader as shown here:
Can you scroll back a few days to see if it pops up for you?
-
Hiya,
Do you want me to check on the laptop? Because I’m on my phone today and its unlikely I will be able to use my laptop today (its 1pm here as I write this) as I am not at all well today. But I can tell you that on Saturday morning, using my android app I was very easily able to count 25 blog posts from the previous day (up to 1 day ago according to the reader) that I had NOT seen via the website Reader on my laptop the previous day.
They were so easily identified due to the large number of posts I HAD been able to see the previous day. 1 blog had 3 posts missing!!
I did make a list as I went but was unable to list them yesterday.
The particular post you found was among them. But I only saw it originally by being on the blog itself.
The thing is, this flaw is ‘intermittent’, as I think I already mentioned, and just because a post shows in the reader one day, does not mean it was there the day it should have been.
Plus no-one has yet to explain why some posts ONLY show up under the tag search but not under ‘blogs I follow’.
-
Apologies – my 3rd paragraph above should have read that they were so easily identifiable by the large number of posts I HAD been able to see the day before on the website reader on my laptop that were now absent via the android reader.
-
And paragraph 4 – I was able to make a list on paper as I went but unable to list the links on here with the laptop so you could see.
-
Hi!
I’m focusing on the desktop/laptop experience right now to hopefully get this resolved before tackling the mobile Reader as the issues might be a bit different. It’s easier to focus on one first before attempting to solve the other.
Here’s the point I’m trying to figure out:
Plus no-one has yet to explain why some posts ONLY show up under the tag search but not under ‘blogs I follow’.
I haven’t been able to track down a post that exhibits this behavior. Previously, you linked to the following post:
That post appeared under the Reader when I logged in under your account per the screenshot here:
Do you have any additional examples of this occurring that I could dig into?
-
I had already told you about one that showed up under the tag search and not under blogs I follow
But why are blogs I follow only showing up under a tag search and not in ‘Blogs I follow’? The most recent one this happened with is
https://lanilongshore.wordpress.com/I hope this helps.
That showed up under my tag search ‘Beading’. Lani’s blog posts show up more often there than under ‘Blogs I follow’. There are others that show up under my ‘Fibromyalgia’ tag search and not in ‘Blogs I follow’.
As I said yesterday, I have a written list here of 25 blog posts that hadnt shown up on my laptop/internet reader on Saturday, but I’m sure you can appreciate how time comsuming that will be for me to locate them again, and copy and paste them :(
Are mine the only ones you are investigating? As there were other bloggers who also said they were having the same problem.
I have images of this being a needle in a haystack scenario for you, with so many blogs and posts per day etc. What is the best way for me to assist you to resolving it? Is there a more efficient way?
