Reader says she cannot leave comments
-
I have my Discussion setting set so that comment author must fill out name and e-mail is checked, but
Users must be registered and logged in to comment is not checked. However, when a reader tried to leave a comment, she got the message that she must log in.
I want people to be able to leave comments easily. Is there a setting I need to change, or is something wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments.

Other comment settings
_Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
_Users must be registered and logged in to commentNote that the prompt to submit and email address and a website URL will still appear, but providing an email address and logging in are not required, and you cannot change this so the prompt does not appear.
You can post instructions for your visitors in a text widget if you wish to set up anonymous commenting. That’s easy to do. You copy and paste this into a text widget:
Readers: Note that the email address and logging in prompts do appear for comments on this blog, but providing an email address and logging in are not required.
P.S. Do be sure to set up full comment moderation ie. “An administrator must always approve the comment” because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive.

I do not really want anonymous posting. I want to have the name and email of the commenter; however I do not want them to have to be registered and logged in to WordPress to comment. I thought that is what I had indicated by my check marks, checking “name and email must be filled out”, but not checking “Users must be registered and logged in to comment.” Am a missing out on understanding something? Although those were my settings, the reader said she was unable to comment without having a WordPress account.

Hey rogdave21!
It sounds like the email address the user inputted into the “Email” box is one that’s associated with a WordPress.com account. To protect our users, we require people to sign into their account in order to associate comments with that account. I can confirm this if you give me their email address. (Email addresses are redacted from public view, but staff can see them.)
You can also give them a link to this thread and I can help them out that way. :)
