readers cannot comment
-
When a reader of my blog wants to comment, he fills in his name and mailadress in the corresponding fields, but when he hits the send-button, there is a textballoon that says (in Dutch) ”zorg dat de indeling voldoet aan de gevraagde indeling”. I translate: make sure that the format is equal to the required format”. The comment can not be posted then.
It seems that this happens only when commenting in the browser (Chrome, Safari) on a mobil device (phone, tablet). On a pc for instance, commenting is normal as usual.
What is wrong??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

hi,
I managed post a comment with an emulated mobile device.
https://screenshots.firefox.com/T8JiTnyPiCFvjHdm/nullDo you have a lot of readers who complains of this problem ?

Hi there,
I have not seen previous reports of an issue like this, and it is likely a problem specific to the browser and device that particular reader is using, or else specific information they’re entering when commenting.
Does that reader have a WordPress.com account, or are they just commenting without being logged in? And can you share the email address they’re using to comment with me, if it’s the second? Write the email address on its own line, then it will be hidden from public view.
Also ask that reader to try clearing the browser cache and cookies in the Safari browser on devices where this is happening and to check if that makes any difference.

Hello Kosiew en Kokkieh, when I can write in Dutch, please tell me.
It happens on my Android-phone (android 7.0) on Chrome and on Opera mini. The last I installed fresh new an hour ago. In Chrome I cleared all the settings, including cache.
It also happens on the iPad of a friend of mine with Safari installed, but on that same iPad not with Chrome installed. On my Android it also happens on an ”incognito” page.
What I saw this morning, is that the commentpage can have the sequence: text to write, emailaddress, name. When I have this sequence, everything goes fine. But on devices/browsers where it goes wrong I see the sequence: text to write, name, emailadress . And it does not matter what emailadress, real or fake, for instance (email visible only to moderators and staff), I use.
Affected devices are always mobile devices…. on a pc browser it always works fine.
Why the commentpage on a mobile device can have different formats…. I dont’t know. It seems the bug is related to that…. -
I can confirm, on my android with Chrome (current on both) I get an error if I am not logged in. In English it says “Please match the requested format”.
I do not get an error if I am logged in, or if I am logged out using Chrome from a laptop. We’ll troubleshoot this and let you know what we find.

Hi @ronwiegers!
Thanks for reporting this issue! I wanted to let you know that it is now fixed.
The underlying cause had to do with the age of your theme, BonPress — it had some older-style code it in that wasn’t working right with modern browsers, causing the errors you saw on mobile devices.
BonPress is a retired theme; you can still use retired themes, but they are generally a lower priority for bug fixes. In the future, issues that arise from the theme’s code being older may not be fixed. You might want to consider switching to one of our newer themes available at My Site ->Themes.
If you have any questions at all, please let us know!

Hi Laurel,
I tested by reacting on one of my topics with my smartphone and YES! it works fine now.
I’ll consider changing to a more recent theme.
For now: thank you very much for fixing this. Very grateful!
Greetz, Ron
