Readers having problems commenting

  • Unknown's avatar

Are anyone else’s readers having problems commenting if those readers are just trying to comment as non-WP members? I have a few FaceBook friends who want to comment just the way we used to be able to, entering their email address and a name, but it is not working for them.

I don’t know what error they are getting, if any. Some have commented in the past with no problems, so it is a mystery.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi! Have you reported this issue to staff? I know that they are looking into various problems with the comment box. I made a report of a different kind of problem with the comment/reply system, and I received a reply that they are working on it since there appears to be a number of other users with the same problem that I experienced.

The only suggestion I can make is to go into dashboard and change the way that users are permitted to comment and then change it back to the name & email option and see if that helps.

Thanks, will give that a try

I took me 3 tries to submit a comment to your blog using my WordPress.com log-in. I also think your blog needs Staff intervention.

Thanks TT – I have emailed them!

I hope you get a good resolution! :)

Going nuts on my blog with people having to write comment 3 times before it posts, scroll bar is missing on comment box, and after a comment is submitted the original copy doesn’t automatically delete in the comment box where it was written. Hope you find resolution soon. Thanks.

Justice4mj I have also referred staff to this thread. Clearly it is not an isolated issue, but I think there are a few problems so it may take a while for staff to isolate and resolve.

Of course, perhaps a rollback of the recent upgrade would be a good interim solution!

Your blog is Private. Are you using a premium theme that you purchased here? Have you contacted Staff yet? http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    @teamoyeniyi
I’m thinking that as you have a premium theme this may be a factor. Of course I don’t know that for sure but it may be a good idea for you to post to the Premium Themes Forum.

@TT – yes, that crossed my mind too. Support did manage to post comments to my blog today, so I am wondering if it is an intermittant problem.

I will post in the Premium Themes forum now.

  • @timethief, what happened when it didn’t work? Did you get any error? What browser/OS were you using?

To anyone else experiencing problems, please let us know the URL you tried to comment on, the time (and timezone :)) at which you tried to comment, the browser, browser version, and operating system.

That will give us the best chance of fixing the bugs.

Thanks for reporting the issue and for your continued help in getting it resolved.

    (6) I refreshed the page.
    (7) I clicked into the post again and pasted the same comment in again and clicked “submit “and nothing happened again.
    (8) I refreshed the page again, and I clicked into the post again, and pasted the same comment in again, and clicked “submit” and the comment posted.

    (9) I’m in Canada, Gulf Islands, British Columbia and my timezone is “Vancouver”. I do not recall what time it was when I had the comment posting problem.

  • Thanks for the details, @timethief.

I think this particular bug is fixed.

    You’re welcome. :)

I’ve successfully commented & replied, with no multiple clicks necessary — and no weird ghost text in the comment box.

    Thanks for the fix! :)

My visitors were still having problems last night (AU time) but I see there has been another fix overnight – I will ask the users to try again today.

    Hi there,
Well I received a comment from a reader of mine on the blog linked to my username that I will paste below mus the personal information:

TT: I tried “reporting” the problem, and after an hour messing around trying to find a “click-on” button that would let me speak my piece, I stumbled onto one of your messages (posted 2 hours ago) about a “header getting into the comment” (or something like that). Then I thought I’d be able to simply “post a comment” there… [on the forum] but alas, I cannot since I’m not a “member” of the dot com section of WP… I think “you” will have to deal with the issue I presented on your blog about “your blog”. Sorry.

There ought to be a place where a visitor can simply “report a problem” about someone’s blog and not require (jeeeeze, I have to click on these buttons to clear them from covering up my texting efforts) the visitor to register, log in and attempt to describe the problem again and not be the the “master” of the site being reported.

I’ll just keep my mouth shut and let someone else deal with the problem.
