Readers unable to comment on my blog

I recently had a private message from a long time follower of my blog remaking how he now finds it close to impossible to leave comments on my posts. I quote:

“thanks to WordPress expecting me to jump through a series of hoops to do so. I don’t know what they have changed recently but whatever it is has made a pleasure into a chore.”

He is being forced to sign into a WP account every time and then finds his comments promptly vanish.

Now, this i not the kind of thing I want to hear from subscribers/members. Why am I paying an annual fee to have my followers report that what ought to be a pleasure is now a chore?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That ought to read: “…from a long time follower of my blog remarking how…”

  • Hi there, do you think the commenter would be open to reporting the issue here on this thread? As a test I was able to leave a comment on your site without logging in, so for me I was not able to replicate this isssue.

I recorded a video of myself, and you can see I am able to leave a comment without logging in. The name and email address I used is a made up one for which there is no pre-existing login account.

Video of me leaving a test comment

Note that at the end of my video the comment does not show (it takes a bit longer than that to actually be approved and show on the site) but a few minutes later it is visible on the post as expected:

Is it possible the person who is trying to leave a comment on your site is using an email address that is associated with an account here on WordPress.com? If so they will be asked to log in since we recognize the email they are using.

    Thanks for the additional info!
