Readership
-
I set up my laviedepraerie site in April and have written 7 blogs so far, which aren’t strictly about any particular topic but are grounded in the fact that I live on a prairie and have a certain outlook on the world, which I believe a lot of people relate to because it reflects appreciation of quality and provides a bit of escapism. However, I would so love to increase my readership and although I am glad to have, I think, 5 followers already, how do I go about getting more to sign up? The only place that I have, other than WordPress.com, to showcase my blog is my facebook page. Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m pretty new to the forums but I’d say interacting with other blogs will be a big help. Do you also use the tags option? I know I’ve found several new blogs or content I was interested in from looking up different tags.
But yeah, interacting with the community and getting your name and personality out there is your best bet. Think about why you want people to follow you and if that is conflicted with what purpose you have for blogging. Be true to yourself. Be kind in the community, and you’re likely to meet some great bloggers and wonderful new friends.
Keep your chin up! :)

Thank you for this input, much appreciated. I do believe in what you say regarding being true to myself….by community I suppose you mean the blogging community, although it must also mean everyone out there. Regarding using the tags option…. am not sure what that means or how to do this ??
thanks!

No problem! :D
For sure yeah, there is a HUGE community out there, not only the bloggers on this site but the other people who may come across your blog who may or may not have a WP account. :) It’s a pretty big world if you think about it! Do you have that widget for people without a WP account to follow your blog? I just added it to my page as I only recently realized it existed.
When you write a new post, there’s that sidebar to the left that asks you what category/folder to put the post in, and below there’s space for tags, using #whatever. For me I’ll tend to search #mental-health to find new posts regarding that topic, so when appropriate I fill in those tags when I write up a new post, so other people can also find it. I’ve seen that some people suggest using only the appropriate number of tags for your post so SPS (I think that was the acronym for the search engine stuff) can pick up your post and recommend it to other people who are searching for related topics.
Basically, putting too many tags I’ve read can cause your posts not to be seen as the system will think you’re spamming. But personally I just have fun with them ^^’ It’s up to you, for sure!
Hope that helps some more! :)

Thank you for this useful tip — am going check the sidebar next time I write. I’m not clever with techno terms though……have no idea what a widget is…. Hard to believe that I know so little when my son is studying Computer Science and programming. Actually should ask him to give me a lesson when he comes home again from university !
Oh and I doubt I’ll be heavy handed with the tags ;-)

What I did to promote my blog (birchsilver.wordpress.com) was send a message to all my friends about the blog. It gained me six or so followers – plus I found their blogs too!
Another thing I can suggest is emailing people with an advertisement. However, if you do try messaging people, leave a sentence like this at the end:
Please tell me if you do not want to receive messages like this in the future.
So that if they don’t you won’t keep sending stuff that they treat as Spam.

Thank you, I think a mail to my friends will be a good idea — they can forward it to their friends if they like it, and also have the option to say “no thank you” by means of the message you suggested at the end.
By the way, if I click on birchsilver.wordpress.com I don’t go to your site — I get a message saying the author has deleted save our feral goats ??Thanks :-)
