readership required for sponsored posts

  Hi,
  I would like to advertise on my blog via affiliate links. I noticed in the Help page that occasionally WP allows for bloggers with a certain number of daily readers to use affiliate links and sponsored posts. I would love to be able to do this- is there a certain number of readers? Many thanks.

  No, you misread.

  There are a very limited number of circumstances in which WP.com allows affiliate links; substantive review blogs are one such case.

  There are no situations of which I am aware that WP.com allows sponsored posts; they suspend blogs every day for making sponsored posts.

  Hmm, really? I can think of 2 wordpress blogs off of the top of my head that openly use sponsored posts on a regular basis. Am I misunderstanding what sponsored means? For example, a fashion blogger will write about xyz clothing shop’s line of yoga pants, and at the bottom of the post, will have a small disclaimer stating that the post was sponsored by xyz clothing shop.

  What is the URL of the blogs?

  they might be a WordPress.ORG install on their own host, which might make if OK, but not if they are on WordPress.COM

  Before I do, can anyone answer my question? I’d like to get some information…both of the blogs I’m thinking of have millions of monthly page views, so I doubt they’re doing anything wrong, I’d just like to know how WP determines when a certain blog can use affiliate links/sponsor posts.

  I did answer the question. VIP blogs, which cost around $30,000 a year, are permitted to have affiliate sales and paid ads. If you are not part of the VIP program, you cannot do it.

  Right, thanks! As you can see, I’m still learning the ropes here, and I didn’t understand the difference between wordpress.org vs wordpress.com. After a thorough google search I think I’ve found the answer- the aforementioned sites are self-hosted. Thanks for the help!
