Reading Settings – Follower Settings – Anonymous Followers
-
Okay, I’m having difficulty with the box under Reader Settings/Follower Settings/Anonymous Followers – it’s making my brain hurt.
The support page at http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/
says this:
If you only want people who are logged in to WordPress.com to be able to follow your blog, check the box. If you want all your visitors to be able to follow your blog via email, leave the box unchecked.
But in the dashboard it says this:
Leave this checked to allow anonymous users to follow you. Uncheck it to only allow registered WordPress.com users.
Which seems to be completely opposite to what the support pages says.
One has to be wrong, they can’t both be right, can they?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are welcome. There have been a lot of changes over the past few months and I think they are behind on updating the documentation.

The documentation does get reviewed regularly, but it helps very much if you ask questions like this one because it helps us to find anything that was updated between documentation reviews or things that may have been missed (like this logged out follow button option).
I’ve updated the documentation for you here, thanks again for noting it and please feel free to add the ‘modlook’ tag for support documentation issues like this one and we’ll be able to fix them faster that way.
