Really annoying posting bug

Of course, without a date on the document, it’s impossible to know when the future is relative to now.

Until the future “arrives” it appears we are doomed to history repeating itself, again, and again, and again , and again, and …
Isn’t it interesting that given the same situation generaldisarray can respond with “fair enough”, while I hear the phrase it’s *NOT* Fair reverberating between my ears again, and again, and again, and again, and …
[just a little comic relief] :) lol

I have the same posting problem (pressing Publish and ending up with a blank screen and a lost post). For a while now I’ve been opening up the html editor and copying all the code to my clipboard (just highlight the text and press ctrl + C).
I love WP, but this is time consuming and frustrating. I submitted a feedback about this about two weeks ago, but I never heard anything and the problem persists. Some of you say it’s only happened a handful of times over the past month but it happens about once every three posts for me. Maybe this is because I post everyday, so I experience it more frequently?
When it happens I have to start over. Fortunately most times I can paste the copied code into the HTML editor and get one with it. Unfortunately I’m getting really tired of nearly finishing and being almost done only to try publishing and aving it fail, which means I must spend several more minutes repeating work I’ve already completed.
I use primarily use Firefox but this happens with any of the browsers I’ve tried. I have noticed that the longer it takes me to compose a post, say if it’s a lengthy entry or I have to step away from the computer for a few minutes, the more likely it is that the post won’t publish properly.
Does anyone have a simple software program they recommend for composing posts offline? I know Notepad can be used but I’m hoping there is something better available to help someone like me who knows very basic HTML.

There are a couple of programs that might work.
Plain text/HTML editors:
* For OS X, there’s TextWrangler, Taco HTML edit or Smultron, all free text editors with features for typing raw HTML.
* For Windows, Crimson Editor, Notepad++, HTML Kit and First Page fullfill the same function (the last two are web-development specific)
* Nvu is a cross-platform wysiwyg html editor. You could compose in Nvu then copy the source into the html view, though the html produced by Nvu may not all be allowed by WordPress.comBlog editors – There are also a number of applications designed specifically for blogging, allowing you to create, edit and manage posts offline.
* Windows: w.Bloggar and Blogjet work with WordPress and WordPress.com powered blogs. Both are free.
* Cross platform: Bleezer and Qumana are free, cross-platform (Win and OS X, at least) desktop blogging clients
* Firefox extensons: Deepest sender and the Performancing for Firefox extension both work with WordPress.com, although I’ve had some problems with line breaks in DS
* Mac. I’m not aware of any free, OS X-native blog editors (I think that both Bleezer and Qumana use Java, which can be kind of slow), but there are two relatively inexpensive commercial desktop editors: MarsEdit and ecto. ecto is wysiwyg, though it is occasionally buggy (a new version is in the works).None of these applications are a perfect solution, and an autosave feature would be invaluable, but hopefully they at least give you some ideas. Just Google the names, I was too lazy to type in the links.

For the most part you don’t need to use HTML at all.
If you write your post just as you normally would, before you save or publish the post just copy the text and paste it into notepad.
That way if it does fail you can just copy and paste it back again.
This is obviously easier if you don’t use TinyMCE as the editor will show all the code for formatting and images etc.
There’s a composer called Performancing for Firefox, but I don’t know if that will do exactly what you want it to.

BlogJet is a commercial app.
Zoundry Blog Writer and a Post2Blog Express edition both can be downloaded and used for free.

I do write off line and thus do have the text so I can paste it in again but this is tremendously annoying. It happens very frequently sometimes more often to me than view has reported, and to establish just how frequently I’m going to begin keeping a detailed list (date and time) of the number of times I click to publish or click to save and end up looking at a blank screen. What I can say is that I live in a -7 hours GMT timezone and it’s usually during the evening hours that this happens to me.

what’s needed is a firefox extention that autosaves all text in all textareas….
I don’t see why we’re still telling our computers what to save instead of what to discard, by this time we should be doing the latter rather than the former.
