Really struggling with the sidebar

  On all my pages apart from the homepage i have the default sidebar that has nothing in it. It takes maybe 1/4 of the page on the right and it has a black line that goes down the screen. I can’t find out how to hide or remove this on any of the pages. I managed to remove the categories widget within the sidebar but i cannot get rid of the bar and it cuts through text on some pages
