Really unbelievable confluence of events going on.
-
Going to try to explain this step-by-step:
1. I bought a domain and a subscription (the $5/month one).
2. My site would not work at all.
3. Contacted WordPress support and they couldn’t solve it.
4. Cancelled my domain and plan.
5. Tried deleting my account, but it won’t let me delete my account until I delete my site.
6. Can’t delete my site because it has somehow been converted to ‘Jetpack’ (I don’t even know what this is). The URL is no longer at wordpress.com, but is now at wpcomstaging.com.
7. Because I cancelled my plan, I can no longer get human support, just the AI assistant, which is… not helpful at all.
8. I have been told to come here.Is there a way I can disconnect myself from Jetpack so I can delete my site (and, as a result, delete my account)?
Any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated!

Hi there, another forum volunteer tagged your thread for Staff assistance with this, but in the meantime, have a look at this support guide while you’re waiting https://wordpress.com/support/close-account/#close-your-account

Hello @jimpdrungo! I just checked and confirmed that your site account has been successfully deleted.
Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to assist you. -
Hi,
It sounds like your site became a Jetpack-connected staging site, which is why the URL changed to
wpcomstaging.comand deletion is blocked. Here’s what you can do:- Disconnect Jetpack – Log in at WordPress.com, go to My Sites → Settings → Security, and look for Connected Services / Jetpack. Disconnect your site from Jetpack.
- Check Site Ownership – Make sure the site is listed under your account. If it shows as “Managed by Jetpack,” disconnecting should restore normal control.
- Delete the Site – Once Jetpack is disconnected, go to My Sites → Manage → Settings → Delete Site. Follow the prompts to permanently delete it.
- Delete Your Account – After the site is fully deleted, you can then delete your WordPress.com account via Account Deletion.
Notes:
- Jetpack sometimes converts sites to staging when domain plans are canceled. Disconnecting Jetpack usually resolves the block.
- If you cannot see the disconnect option, log in at WordPress.com on a desktop browser and try again; mobile sometimes hides advanced settings.

Following these steps should allow you to remove the site and then delete your account.
