Reasons for dropping traffic
-
Hi there,
Over the past 2 years I have seen a significant drop in the traffic to our website. On the face of the matter the drop is hard to explain. Our website still regularly publishes the same kinds of quality materials. Google searches for related queries (such as ‘psychedelic video’) still position us as the first result in any search in the subject. I don’t think interest in the subject matter has dropped, as well (if anything it has increased).
Nevertheless, the drop in traffic has been significant and worrying. I have contacted some webmasters who were willing to take a look at the data but it seems that our current site plan does not allow us to run advanced SEO tools such as google analytics which would allow them to get more insight into the subject (we are a non-commercial website, a reason why we don’t use the business or even premium options). Webmasters say that current data (from the site’s native statistics option) are not enough in order to get into the root of the problem.
My question is: What could explain this drop in traffic in your opinion? Are there any other options for us to get the data needed to make sense of this drop? If a more expensive plan is needed to get the relevant data, which plan should I choose to be able to get the analytics data that could be used to understand the trends in our traffic? Will that data also be available retroactively for the past year, or only from the moment in which we join a new program?
Thank for the help,
