Rebalance: site logo and page loading hang.
-
Hi all, two questions about my website.
The first is simple: the logo in the top title bar. The image dimensions I’m using is 520w x 160h in pixels, which is double the suggested height of 80. The image is blurry, regardless of whether I use the 160px version or an 80px version. I used the 160 currently for Retina screens, though neither seem to look clear to me. Any solutions?
Second, my pages hang for an uncomfortable amount of time. This one, for example, takes >10 seconds to load on my connection, even though a) it never took that long on past themes (such as Illustratr), and b) I can launch the link into reader mode in Safari and all the content is already loaded, which is what leads me to believe that this is a theme-based problem. Clicking on the link leads to a blank white screen until it loads. Can anyone reproduce the long load times? If so, is there anything that can be done since the problem doesn’t seem to be on my side?
Thank you for your help!

Hi Ty,

I’m not able to see any difference between the way your logo displays in the upper right of your site and the 80px wide version of the image in your media library here:
The larger image looks slightly more sharp in your media library:
If the loss of quality between the larger and smaller version of the images is what you’re referring to, then this is an issue with the image itself rather than the theme.
What software are you resizing the logo in? I’ll see if I can find some guidance to help you out.
Can anyone reproduce the long load times? If so, is there anything that can be done since the problem doesn’t seem to be on my side?
I was able to reproduce the slow loading time on portfolio pages that contained more that one animated gif. Such as the following:

I recommend optimising your gifs and then re-uploading them. I found the following guide to help you on the right road to optimising your gifs:

Hope that’s helpful!

Hi siobhyb, thanks for the help! :) I think I might have found a solution for the logo – if it works it is due to the image quality like you said. I’ll try that later today.
I’ll also look into optimizing the gifs further (I already have). My only question is why does none of the rest of the page load? In other themes, the text would load, and then the gifs would pop in later; there was still something to read before the page finished loading. In Rebalance, the page stays completely white until all the gifs are loaded.

Hi Ty,
Let me know you get on with your solution for the logo!
I tested your content in Blask and Twenty Sixteen, and can confirm that the text loads before your gifs with those themes.
I imagine that this is down to the preference of the theme’s author: There is a case for all content on a page to be loaded at the same.
I’m going to bring this to the team to see if I can find more solid confirmation on that and will post here when I hear back.
